Something is on the fritz with me using Win7 and reinstalling an adblocker. Firefox displays a red box

saying 'download failed check your connection.'

My specific goal is to fix an error where an ad blocker for youtube has failed and I want to
get the right tool to continue ad free in Youtube. Since all the adblocker names sound alike to
the point of making me dizzy perhaps you can give a good recommendation for a you tube
ad blocker that will not fail at download. I have not seen the error previously.

I may be missing something or have a wrong setting at system but do not know how to proceed.

I now see it may have something to so with add-on signing. In the add-ons a bright red message from Firefox displays saying the ad blocker etc has been disabled. The recommendation is to find
a signed replacement but that's where my problem began in not being able to get a download past the
another red error message.

At tools > add ons in Firefox it looks like everything is wiped-- the few add ons I had in there
are nowhere to be found. I'm stumped.

Will load a different backup boot drive to see if the problem persists.

I put on a different boot disk. The adblock program showed ok in Firefox, no red warnings, then trying to loginto Youtube got the add-ons cancelled, disabled. Maybe some big hack is going on.

I don't think it's my stuff for this reason.

The banner add in Youtube is gone and the error messages. I did a number of things but the fact that I used system restore I think did the trick. Also the simple tool from Malwarebytes Junk Removal Tool.
I know it is no longer updated but I still use it for quick restore points and such.

Ready to mark solved.
