Hello!
I've a card printer with a usb card programmer.
When I'm logged in as an Administrator everything works well, but when I'm logged in as a regular user the printer prints but holds the card when it comes to the programmer.

We have a GP saying that write/read access to removable disks is disabled but do you think this will also interupt with the programmer?

  1. Does the software in question that controls the card programmer pop up a UAC prompt on the admin account?
  2. Do you have uac enabled or disabled?
  3. Does the program require admin rights?
  4. Does creating another standard user account experience the same issue?

Thanks for the information and answering the questions asked.

Is the program an older program?

When running the application under the standard account, try this:

Right click the shortcut of the program and choose run as administrator.

UAC will pop up asking for the admin password and to allow this program to make changes to this computer. Enter it and click yes.

Then let me guess, the program works well now?

If so, this means that the program requires admin rights to run and that unfortunately a standard account might not suffice for this program. As in it can work with the standard account by way of UAC, but the program has to be elevated to admin privileges in order to work.

To make UAC auto ask to elevate the application when clicked under the standard user account do the following:

Logged in as admin, Right click the programs shortcut-choose the compatibility tab. Click change settings for all users. Check the box to run this program as an administrator. Click ok until all boxes close.

Yes since it works with the administrator account that works to.
I dont think it requires full admin rights.
