Solved Various BSOD's while gaming, surfing, idling.

Ok so first off, damn this is a well laid out site!

Problem:

I bought this PC from from cyberpower via a retailer and it's been problematic ever since. I've been seeing BSOD's on a fairly regular basis, with them being most frequent while running games (WoW, f1 2012, D3). I've also had it crash and give me a BSOD while chrome was the only application running as well as woken up to a message stating I've recovered from an unexpected shutdown leading me to believe it had crashed in a similar fashion.

Already attempted:

I've ran the latest version of memtest, done 11 passes with no errors ruling out what I hoped was the issue. I've also used AMD's driver updater to ensure my GPU driver was up to date and I've still got the errors.

Hopefully I've provided everything necessary for someone to help me out. It's very much appreciated!

update* I've since turned driver verifier on after reading through another thread

2nd update* after rebooting once turning on verifier all hell broke loose, now I'm seeing bsod's after every attempt to boot. I booted in safe mode, ensured verifier was off yet i'm still unable to stay on. here are links to the 3 bsod's I've gotten after enabling verifier

1. Please update your bios to version 4001 as there are lot of memory and stability fixes...

2. the last few dmps are caused by directx.... now..since directX 11 is part of windows 7.. there is niothing much you could do other than reinstalling the windows 7.... but there are few things you could try first....

a) run dxdiag at the run command.. check for errors..

b) run windows update to install all the updates...

c) the bsod related to this could also be caused by hardware... the graphics card could be loose or the temps are high.. try reseating and cleaning the fans... check using speccy

3. Disable demon tools from startup.

Do these and let me know

Updated the bios from disc I had to download on Asus's site and then update via the BIOS updater at boot and not the online auto-updater. Seems rather basic, but it's progress for me learning that stuff! So far since enabling verifier when the BSOD's were every time I booted I've had no problems and the system is running fine. I'll update when I address all those other things or if shit goes south again.

Second...with the verifier disabled..... does it BSOD ? Was the verifer disabled when you were updating the BIOS ??

Verifier was disabled when I updated my BIOS, and yes it has BSOD'd since disabling it. The system seems to be stable again after changing my CPU's power settings in the Asus EFI Bios updating tool prior to my comp booting up. When I switched from performance to the middle of the pack one I haven't seen any bsod's....

edit * two hours of use since resetting my power settings in BIOS utility, no bsod's vs. the almost immediate ones upon booting with power settings to performance. intredasting

More crashes FML. I should add, I had some very strange visuals occuring while gaming a few days ago with every color of the rainbow overtaking my monitor which was followed by a crash. Sign of a faulty GPU? I wouldn't put it past cyberpower to have used refurbished parts...

Attempted to deal with the manufacturer to rectify this. They have yet to even reply to my emails from over a month ago and I've since found out I'll have to cover all shipping costs which I will not be reimbursed for, as well as likely having my PC held hostage for months while they "get to it".

Steer clear from cyberpower, I wish I had.

If you are getting colors on your monitors... that doesnt look good... it looks like the graphics card is loose or there is no proper contact !

and this looks like at both zone (ie: TZ00 usually the area around your CPU and TZ01 the area around you GPU) the CRT (Critical temperature to Shutdown) is at 372 K (ie kelvin)... thats 98.85 deg C.. thats hot !! Your motherboards PSV (passive temp to start the fans ) is at 372 K.. that when the BSOD or the system restarts to protect the system from overheating

This could very well cause the Bsod combined with drivers issue

Bugcheck 0x50 : Bug check 0x50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM).

Bugcheck 0x3b :This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code.


so there you go... check and clean your Graphic card Fans .... reseat them and as well as clean the contacts....
also clean the CPU fan as well... and if possible keep the cabinet doors open... so you can also maintain the lower temps...

Do these and let me know...

and oh check your temps with Speccy or Speedfan

CPU temp peaked at 88deg while updating video driver yet again, GPU is stable between 50-60. It's clean in there, reseated graphics card.

I'm tempted to see if buckshot at 1300fps does a better job cleaning it out, but till then I've managed to keep all the dust out. Tons of air flow with two case fans.

update ~ cpu temp was dancing between 87/88 with nothing but Chrome running. Would it be normal to have seen so many different errors had the issue been temperature all along?

post in a screenshot of the resmon.. with the highest CPU usage...somethings not right... even though the 88 is ok it still is high with not much processes running...and running it constantly on 88 is not good for the CPU

Are you keeping the cabinets open...so that you get in more airflow ?

I've opened up my case for the next little while, but is it necessary given my system temp is at 26deg?
I don't think it's poor ventilation. For the record I'm using a Cooler Master HAF 912, which is raved about for it's cooling and all fans/vents are cleaned weekly. Being as open as it is, it's quite susceptible to dust build up.

I know dust builds up when the case is open... i have only asked you do it till we sort this problem so as to get the temps down a bit... it wont do much difference but you would atleast get 1 to 2 deg reduction... thats all !!

Anyways.. moving on... it would be better you take screenshot of only the resmon ... as i can't see .... but if i squint my eye way too long ... i can make out that the CPU usage is at 0% but what really caught my eyes is the frequency... its running at 88% which shouldn't be unless you are overclocking and settings are not right...

since you have already updated the bios... check again to see if any overclocking settings have changed ....reset the bios settings to its defaults...

I was using speedfan but I just didn't believe the CPU temps it was giving me so I downloaded a program I had used before, realtemp. It has my temp's sitting at mid/high 30's celcius while idling.

Went into BIOS and reset to default.

I'm sorry for my noobness, I'm not sure exactly what it is you want to see in the resmon (which I had to youtube to open).

You did mention that you changed the CPU power setting in bios that resolved the BSOD.... is it the same setting ??? did anything change in the past 2 weeks ??

I did not, but the blue screens have been pretty consistent since I started this thread. They were simply immediate upon booting after I changed the power settings.

My frequency is consistently over 100% when playing WoW. I'm no rocket surgeon, but that's probably not ideal. I have never messed with CPU settings...

Nothing as of yet, they usually occur every few hours.

Are there any programs which would stress test certain components and log what caused a crash? I know after doing my research after purchasing (dumb I know) many companies stress test for 72hours prior to shipping a newly built system. Apparently my builder failed to do that.
