Vhd

Hi Guys

Are any of you running Windows 7 off a VHD?
If so, can you view the partitions on the current HD where the VHD is stored?

What I want to do is find a solution to hide the partitions of the current HD. I have tried Acronis Operating System Selector, OSL2000 and another boot selector but I can't remember the name of it. These two tools allow you to hide selected partitions when your in Windows, however they both show the partitions (only delete partition) in disk management which isn't much use but it is a temporary solution.

Thanks
00J

This is not easy to do. diskmgmt.msc shows the low level disk devices. The best way is to implement a filter driver that only allow the vhds to be accessed, and deny all other file access on the real hard disk. We are implementing this in vBoot, but not yet ready.

Hello 007,

I have not tried this in a VHD like this, but you may be able to hide the drive letters using the tutorial below from within the booted VHD.

Drive - Hide or Unhide - Vista Forums

If that doesn't help, then you might be able to use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to prevent the VHD from see the drive letters that you enter at step 4D. Just add a \DosDevices\D: for each drive letter that you want the VHD to no longer see.

System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete - Vista Forums

Hope this helps,
Shawn
