I just wanted to post the solution to my problem now. Basically today I have done the same as I did yesterday, but for some reason it worked. Well, I did one additional thing, which was to turn off the windows firewall on my exchange server.
So, now I have one Exchange Server without firewall and only one local connection, and one Windows Server 2003 with a local connection and one internet connection. After disabling the firewall, I typed "ipconfig \release" and "ipconfig \renew" in both my servers to refresh the IP addresses... and miraculously everything worked fine.
Thanks so much everyone for your help yesterday!!
