Virtualization confused :-)

Hi.

I'm running an ASUS P5Q Deluxe motherboard with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.

I would install Windows XP virtual on the computer.

But I ran in the virtualization issue.

I thought that the KB977206 would do the trick, but no.

I have seen, that it should not be necessary to have the virtualization, but I
didn't see how to get rid of the virtualization then.

I have attached a dump, that shows what happens, when I downloaded and
installed per the info in KB977206

What can I do ?

You need to enable the virtualization feature in your BIOS. It should be in the CPU settings.

I wish I could. According to the tables here in this forum my CPU Intel E7300 is not supported.

BUT I have read that the virtualization could be avoided, but not how ?

Hi there
You could download vmware player (it's Free) from vmware and then install an XP virtual machine -- you don't need to do anything in the Bios for a 32 bit guest using vmware player.

The main disadvantage is that your XP system will need to be activated as it's a separate license.

(XP mode has the XP system already activated but I tend to think that using a separate XP Virtual machine is better anyway in spite of the fact it needs an XP license).


If you have an old XP copy you can use it -- when you activate by phone just tell MS that you've moved the OS to a new computer -- you need to run XP for legacy apps --don't tell them it's on a virtual Machine -- it's NOT illegal but sometimes people in these call centers aren't familiar with the concept of "Vortual Machines".

You're right - the E7300 doesn't allow hardware virtualization to be enabled. Really surprised by that; I hope jimbo45's suggestions help instead.
