I do a lot of drawing in Visio and would like some help finding or making 3D rounded rectangles.

Now, I know how to make a rounded rectangle and I know how to use the gradient fill to give the "top" of the rectangle a shine, in a fake 3D sort of way. That would be good enough IF ONLY the gradient were limited to the very top of the rectangle.

Now, the closest solution I have devised is to group three rectangles. A narrow narrow rectangle at the top, using gradient 30, and a solid fill rectangle of similar size at the bottom and laid atop both a solid square rectangle.

To clarify, the top and botton rectangles give the rounded appearance and the top has the gradient for the lighting effect, while the middle rectangle creates th illusion that there is only one rounded rectangle by overlapping the top and bottom at the vertical half-way point on each.

The middle rectangle can also then accept text for this grouped object. The solid coloring of the middle rectangle is important for the look, giving only the overall (grouped) top edge the appearance of the lighting effect.

The problem with this solution is that it needs to be repeated anytime a color change is desired. When changing the fill color on the group, odd things happen to the colors in the gradient, so it no longer looks right.

I'd rather buy than build, and I'd rather buy open-source, so if you have a recommendation, I'd love to hear it.

Otherwise, can anyone provide instructions (easy to follow please) for making an object that I can change the fill color on and have the gradient still look like it matches?

PS
Visio 2010
