and looking at programs and features i have 3 different version of visual c++ and was wondering if i could uninstall 2 and just keep one.
here are the names :
-Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributuable
-Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributuable (x64)
-Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributuable - x64 9.0.30729.17
can i uninstall the 2005 ones?? would it make any diffrence?? but whenever i unistall it, the 2005 one comes up on my windows update though the 2008 version didn't. isn't 2008 better and 2005 obsolete???
also i have some other questions.
1.on windows 7 i don't need to update/install/download microsoft .NET framework right?? even if there is an update it will show up on windows update?
2.i downloaded the RTM version from technet the day it was released couple of months ago, would this be any worse or different than the one out on retail or msdn/technet from 22nd october onwards???
When you're installing a new OS, such as Windows 7, its a good policy not to second guess what it wants to install...at least not until you know why it installed it and what program is using it...

The Visual C++ redistributables (often called runtimes) are required for programs written in Microsoft's Visual C++ to run. It's probably best to keep both versions for compatibility reasons. That's what I do.
The .NET framework is built into Windows Vista and 7. In XP it has to be downloaded and installed separately. In any case if it needs updating they would appear on Windows update.
The RTM version is the version Released To Manufacturers. It's the same version of Windows that comes in retail packaging at the stores.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
