Solved W7-64 Homegroup problems

Helping an elderly lady with her computer remotely. She cannot leave her HOMEGROUP. She is also a member of a WORKGROUP.

Research told me:

Go to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking and delete all of the files in this folder. Now restart the computer.

Go to Services again and you should be able to start 'Peer Networking Grouping' and 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol'. Restart the computer again.

When you log on this time, check the event log again, to ensure no errors concerning the two services are present and also check Services to ensure the two services concerned are running.

You should now have full functionality restored to your homegroup.

Still cannot START Peer Networking Grouping or Peer Name Resolution Protocol and, of course, cannot do much of anything with homegroup.

Any help is appreciated in advance. Thank you.

Edit: Should say this is the only computer at the site (her home).

Type services.msc in the start search box. Scroll down and see what 'Peer Networking Grouping' and 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol' are set to. Right click, choose properties and set to automatic ...click restart or start. Reboot.

You may also need to find out if she's running as Administrator, or not.

Access is with an administrator account. services.msc shows both services as automatic (delayed start) .. but they are never started. Tried and tried to start them, but they both fail. Peer Networking Grouping with error 1068 and the other with a longer numeric error .. don't have that info at the moment. Tried every solution I could find online ... and cannot get these two services to start.

There are several different suggestions as to the resolution of 'cannot leave homegroup' throughout the Internet. Some in this forum. None of them worked in my case. A single thread may have many suggestive replies .. many with links to other suggestions/procedures.

Maybe the next method will work (also for removing the computer from a Homegroup):
1. Delete all files in directory C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys. You also can rename this directory (p.e. in 'MachineKeys.old') and create a new directory 'MachineKeys'. To delete the files in the directory you need certain administrator rights. Eventually you can download from internet a (register)file to get the needed rights for deleting a file. Search in Google ‘Take Ownership windows 7 download’. I suppose you have to activate the 'Take Ownership' routine for each file you want to delete. If you have the needed rights, delete the files in the directory 'MachineKeys'.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Start the Troubleshooter Homegroup (Configurationscreen -> Homegroup). (I don't know what's the real name of the program and it's location in english). Choose within the troubleshooter also the network control option, if you are asked so.
4. Start services.exe. For instance by pressing the Start-button on the left lower corner in the taskbar. Typ ‘services’ in the searchwindow ‘Programs and files search’ and press [ENTER].
5. Choose op ‘Services (lokaal)’.
6. Start in the following order the services:
- Peer Networking Identity Manager
- Peer Name Resolution Protocol
- Peer Networking Grouping
You can start the services by clicking the right mousebutton, while standing on the service, and choose for 'Start'. (When the service isn't started already).
Next follow some extra steps to delete the homegroup, if you want so.
7. Try to delete the homegroup from the computer. If that doesnt work yet, run once again the Trouble Shooter Homegroep (inc. network control). Perhaps you can remove the computer bu then from the homegroup. At least as you want to do so.
