My first post , hello to the group
I'm going to change MB an install a SSD ! Bought an OEM disk from FleBay W7-SP1-64bit with the Produce sticker in the sealed plastic container . Hope it works .

The question I have , while I'm waiting for this to arrive can I do an install from a W7-SP1-64bit download and then enter the product key # when it gets here early next week ? or should I wait ?

The UEFI bios is new for me but I've found all the information needed here on W7 Forum

Thanks

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Yea I suppose you could if you install the same version.

uefi bios is nothing really to worry about just don't install win-7 as a uefi install
Meaning do not make a special partiton to install 7 on
Keep the entire drive as Unallocated space

Hopefully you'll end up with only the C Drive and no ntfs or efi 100mb system partition
Win-7 was never designed for uefi installs
It is incompatible with secure boot.
In your bios Advanced/ Boot/ Secure boot make sure you are set with OS Type as Other OS.

ThrashZone , Thanks for your suggestions and link . I'm going to wait for my new install disk to arrive, make an IOS from DVD and mount to bootable USB .

One thing I'm not clear on . When using Rufus , under Position Scheme should I use (GBT partition scheme for UEFI)
Thanks

Hi,
Depends on the hard drive size GPT
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/244566-hard-drive-gpt-mbr.html

I usually stick with normal MBR personally I do not need more than 3-4 partitions which can be easily added later with free mini tool
Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

I would stay far away from a uefi install
Having uefi bios is normal for new hardware
As stated win-7 was never designed for a uefi install although rufus has a uefi install option I would not use it just boot to the usb without the uefi listing.
This I would not do,

Option 2 should show the correct settings

TrashZone , Thanks again for your time and the links , USPS updated the delivery W7 install disk, should be here tomorrow

I'm taking your advice, will install in MBR . I don't need much storage and one position works for me ! If at some point I need more storage I'll add a spinner

I'll post here to give you an update , Hopefully of my success

Thanks

Hi,
Yea a dvd install should be easier than falling off a log :)
Don't create a new partition leave the entire drive as Unallocated
Hopefully you'll end up with nothing but the C partition.
