Solved W7 Ultimate suddenly very slow

I can't say much about restore points as mine are disable.
Instead of restore points (that I found to be sometimes useless), after a clean install with Office and all updates, I do a disk image (I call basic template) and periodically I do a disk image of the current.
Every two years, I recover from the basic template and reinstall all other software.

Yes I do something similar. I take an image about every 6 months when I have what I think is a stable working version and I restoring think that is my next port of call.

If that doesn't work then its a repair install which is fine but takes days downloading windows updates
