*apollogies if this is in the wrong section!!*

Hey all,

Ive had W7 installed since release day (UK) - and have been having a few problems with Administrator privileges.

I mainly use this PC as a Gaming PC, and some applications I use (Steam, Xfire, a few games etc) wont run (or wont run properly) unless "run as administrator" is ticked.

My account is set to Administrator, and it's the only account on the PC.

Ive read on the forums here about a Hidden administrator account, but im not 100% sure wether "this is my problem" or not - as friends of mine, who use the same applications on W7 dont have any problems at all without using the hidden administrator account or ticking run as administrator.

Any ideas? :)

Thanks,

First - please fill out your system specs. Check out the link in my signature for instructions.

Second - did you do an in-place upgrade, or is this a clean install.

Third - did you install drivers yourself, or did you let Windows find and install them via Windows Update?

Welcome to SevenForums AvengerUK :D

I don't think enabling the hidden admin account will solve your problems. In fact, it'd be a whole lot easier to make things worse.
I'm not sure i see your problem actually, what's the issue with having the 'run as administrator' box checked at all times. I have apps that require this.

Although I have now worked it out I believe...

...If UAC is completely off, everything works without running as Administrator
- If on, various things will not run unless set to run as Administrator.

@rsvr85 - its not a problem as such, rather an annoyance and "wanting to understand" as to why :)

Looks like you'll have to make temporary compromises. I hadn't thought of UAC yet, good call :D

As you found out, you can disable UAC to acheive what you are looking for.

I wouldnt recommend it. I'd rather see you make shortcuts to the programs with the "Always run as administrator" box checked for the select programs you need to do that with. But its your machine, do what works for you.
