Was there an August 2025 Simplix W7 update?

The bios menu won't likely tell you why the computer won't boot. However if you can't get into that you might have problems with your hardware. What happens when you try? Have you tried a different keyboard? That beep, was it short or long? What happened with the windows 7 disks? Where you able to boot into them? You haven't given us enough information.

As for the other one run the command prompt as administrator and type in sfc /scannow. Let that run. It could take a few hours.

I finally got into the BIOS on the one PC. It seems my motherboard only gives a very short opportunity to enter the F2 or Delete trigger. By very rapidly tapping the key at the same time it gets the message. Having success with that I took the opportunity to set the boot order to DVD tray first and decided to try a Linux installation disk. To avoid further aggravation on that machine I will use it as a learning experience of Linux with a view to swapping the remaining two machines to Linux.

I have no idea why by trying a System Restore to cure the original faults caused that PC to so effectively bork the machine that I have had to do an OS reinstall.

it needs the ms easy fix :ar: mseasyfix51044

I downloaded it but it doesn't install. Not to worry. I did manage to install MSE yesterday and dump Avira and it seems fine. I had to resort to Revo Uninstaller to get rid of Avira as there was no other way to do it.
One worrying result is that I keep getting popups telling me that Microsoft will perform Updates. Updates of what?? It doesn't say if it is the MSE updates or the OS updates. I have had that can of worms switched off for years.

It appears after I click the Shut down button and warning me to not power down until it is finished and sometimes when first booting up.

I don't know how to get a screenshot during this time. I just had a look into the "Control panel/System and security/Windows update/Change settings" and found that it has been reset to check and install updates. Maybe MSE changed this. I had it previously set to not check for Microsoft Updates. I have now changed it back and will see how it goes.

performing a "clean" or fresh install of MSE does reset/change the windows update settings and they need to be set again
