Weird problem with pdf files

If I try to send a pdf attachment I loose internet connection and I get an exclamation mark in my network icon in the tray.
When the lan adapter is reconnected by the problem solver (right click on the exclamation mark) I have internet again. But as soon as I try to send the mail with the attachment I again loose connection.

Uploading a pdf online in a browser gives the same problem.

Is this just am email attachment problem or does it happen when you download file via a web browser?

You mention it happens when you upload in a browser. Can you clarify a bit more?

What do you use for you email, an application like Outlook or Thunderbird or is all web based like Yahoo or Gmail?

A few years ago when I had a slower DSL line I had a big problem sending attachments with Outlook and also trying to up load files via web browser.

I don't think I lost connections, but I was running XP at the time.

It was just sending of large files. Downloads were fine. My DSL at the time was 1.5Mbps down and about 256Kbps up. I remember changing something to fix it. It may have been tweaking of the TCP window, RWIN, TCP Timeout or MTU. I'm not sure. It was one of those.

It happens with pdf-files, small or large doesn't matter.
Using hotmail or microsoft outlook or gmail, it's all the same.
The internetconnection is broken and when windows disconnects and reconnects the lanadapter the connection is repaired.
I use Kaspersky Internet Security, disabling it doesn't help.
It looks like a safety-issue, but apart from Kaspersky I do'nt have another firewall active.

When I use outlook to send a message with a pdf file attached it takes a long time 'preparing sending/receiving' (translated from dutch) and I the get an error message: (0x800CC0F). I then let windows solve the problem (network controller). After checking different things it reconnects the lanadapter and concludes: The standard gateway is not available. Solved.

If you have iTunes installed try uninstalling the Bonjour service. It tends to cause problems with W7.

Something else to try: It requires running a command prompt as administrator:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel = disabled

See if this resolves the problem.

In addition I suggest you put the .pdf into a Zip folder and attach the .zip. Even if you try to upload a .pdf file to e.g. Skydrive, you get a problem - but no problem when it is in a .zip.

It would be really interesting if it was a sensitivity to large pdf's only. That would be a new one.

In this case i will say that download the file first, save it to the desktop or anywhere else and then send that file as an attachment, this happens because of the defender or from the Anti virus that you have on your computer which scans all the mails and attachments that you send ......

He's already tried disabling his A/V.

Just tried it, no result.
I do notice that preparing to send/receive (translated from dutch) takes a long time, as if some process is checking the attachment and then disconnecting the lan adapter.

I did what you suggested, no results!
Just renaming to .txt also gives no result

Weird problem

Tanks to all of you for your advices.
However I couldn't get it right, so I did a system restore to the date that everthing worked well (december 12th).
A lot of udating the system and sever programs, but now I can send pdf files.
I'm still wondering what could have caused this behaveour...maybe a register cleaning action?

Well, system restore is there for times like this. Sounds like something got corrupted.

I have the same problem, with Windows 7, and no idea how to fix it as I do not have any restore point. I also used Kaspersky, but had de-activated it. It breaks my connection interent from IE as well as firefox
