weired wifi problem

i am using TP Link wifi router to connect to internet

yesterday my win7 laptop was unable to surf the net while showing yellow sign on win7 wifi icon, which means that internet is not working. however at the same time my son was able to surf the net on ipod touch using the same wifi network.

We need some more information to help you. Have you restarted your computer lately? Sometimes this is the easy way to get a new address. Follow Shadows guidelines for posting the results of an IPCONFIG. This may allow us to help you in the mean time.

the problem happened only twice before my post and it has not happened since, when it will happen i will gladly post the ipconfig /all output........

i also restarted both the wimax router and tp link wifi router when the problem was occuring without any luck

There is a built in Windows diagnostic that will search for a problem(when there is a problem) and it will generally narrow it down to a few things. Most of the time it's as useless as tits on a boar hog, but I've found that it does help diagnose some wireless problems. Next time you have the problem, in the bottom right corner, click on the network connectivity tray icon and have it diagnose or troubleshoot the problem and let us know what it says.

wifi router IP address is 192.168.1.1

and it assigns DHCP IP addresses to client starting from 192.168.1.10

169.254.xxx.xxx is an autoconfiguration IPv4 address given if Windows cannot retrieve one automatically.

Can you boot your machine into Safe Mode with Networking and see if you have an internet connection. To do so please follow this tutorial (OPTION ONE ONLY) - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

Please replace all references of 'Safe Mode' with 'Safe Mode with Networking'

Also can you temporarily disable any Antivirus and firewall applications that you have installed as it may be possible for your firewall to be blocking the port used to retrieve the address stack (UDP Port 67 & 68).

can you tell me how to boot win 8 into safe mode, i tried F8 key but it didnt work

win 8 is installed on my colleague laptop, who yesterday had experienced the same problem with internet wifi connection

Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in

Look into OPTION FOUR for an alternate way of booting into safe mode.

Sorry if this has been asked before, what is the make/model of the router? You may need to reset it as it is beginning to look like an issue with your router rather than your laptop since someone else is experiencing the same issue.
