Also, another question -are there any programs that increase battery life? Specifically are there any programs that turn all white pages on windows 7 into black ones? Like the webpage blackle?

Another Question! (haha) This ties in a bit, maybe you can tell me what to disable to get my ram usage down. Because I have 8gb's of RAM ( first time, other laptop was 4gb ) But its contantly using 1.5+ gb's of it even at idle and Im not sure why.

Ok on to my first question.
This is my process list.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, Im used to a service list on a dell, but HP has a load of stuff that im unfamiliar with, so im not jumping up and down to start disabling everything, as when i fist got my laptop I promptly disabled my fingerprint scanner haha.

Be sure and disable services.

Be sure and take the "advice" from Viper.

Then be sure and stay away, when you have problems.

What I am saying is:

Leave the services alone.
Microsoft will only start a service when and if the service is needed.

You can get all kinds of quack advice on services. Don't feed the ducks.

Why am I so adamant? Because of the number of wierd and unusual problems we encounter from people who think they know better than the development teams who developed your Win 7.

We spend way too much time trying to chase down problems that have been caused by the "tuner" who messes with the services.

Since many times, determining what has been done is impossible, then our only resort is to recommend a clean install of Win 7 to fix the problem.

gideon,
Which defrag program are you using?

There are only two that are truly safe:
1. The Windows Defragmenter
2. Contig from the SysInsternals folk:
to defrag the c: using contig, you would:
download contig from Contig
extract from the downloaded contig.zip the file contig.exe to the Desktop
go to an elevated command prompt
enter following command:
%userprofile%\desktop\contig.exe -s c:\*

The first defrag will take longer than subsequent defrags.
