What program/codec/setting am I missing... HDCP error

This error happened on 2 different machines with the same DVD, using multiple softwares including WMC, WMP, powerDVD with win7x64.

The coveted error:
cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card

This happened with my Media Center PC 8600gt nvidia cards in SLi and also my main home computer with a Radeon5850. Both computers are running similar versions of windows with similar software. Both are using HDMI connnections, although one has the spidf cable off the mobo to the 8600gt card which has a DVI to HDMI cable.

Help?

Edit:

The computer with the Radeon 5850 card is using a BluRay burner drive made by LG, and the WMC PC with the nvidia cards is using a generic $24 CD/DVD burner from microcenter, I think it's a pioneer.

What DVD is it that you are trying to play and what region is the DVD from?

What DVD is it that you are trying to play and what region is the DVD from?

I'm really hoping it's from region 1 or whatever the USA is, it came out of a RedBox less than a mile from my apartment.

Is there a way the hardware settings could be FUBARd and not lemme play DVDs that are from this region?

I tried using PowerDVD that came with my blu ray burner. Is that what you mean?

when did you try to play the disc? reason I ask is that there was just a windows update, noticed this when I got up when I saw that my computer rebooted last night.

To prevent the illegal creation of perfect digital copies of DVDs, the information on most DVDs is scrambled. Your DVD decoder and Windows Media Player have copy protection software that decodes the information on the DVD just before displaying it. If this software doesn't start correctly, you might receive this error. Remove the DVD from the DVD drive and then reinsert it. This will force the copy protection software to reset.

While the DVD is out of the drive, make sure that your DVD is clean. If your DVD is scratched or dirty, the DVD drive may not be able to read it correctly, and you might receive this error.
If this doesn't work, try the following:
If you have been able to play DVDs on your computer before, and you receive this error message, you might be able to solve the problem by restarting Windows Media Player or your computer.

Hey Bill,

I googled and found this post on another website. It left me wondering what I did wrong. NVidia control panel says my gfx card is HDCP compliant, WMC is updated, and power DVD is the most current version best I can tell. The license on both computer is a legit copy of 7600 x64 ultimate and fully updated.

Is there some sort of codec pack Im able to download to solve this?

what I find odd is that both machines do the same thing with that disc. Do you have other retail DVD movies on hand to play and see if the same error comes up.

I'll do that and report back. I didnt want to see that particular movie anyways, but this error is annoying.

Have you updated LG_ODD program lately?

Updates certificates/copy protection so you can play latest DVD films (But then that's usually for blu-ray )

Can't you look at the DVD file type thru
(Open) Power dvd > media source(button on bottom row) Open media files > click on Blu-ray drive

For x64 users there is an addon called the x64 Components that needs to be installed also.
