I have things I want to be backed up onto flash drives but what software is best for this? I want it to let me select exactly what I want and when I want the backups to take place. My biggest flash drive is 16gb right now and am thinking of getting a bigger one but am not sure about it yet.

My computer was a custom build from CyberWorks. It cost around $2,000 for all of the hardware above + a 5.1 dolby digital stereo (two side speakers, two rear speakers, a center speaker and a subwoofer.)
My computer is used almost exclusively for watching YouTube, Blu-Ray's and Video Games.
Flash drives are not sufficiently reliable for backup purposes. They should be used primarily as a transport media. One might think that because they have no moving parts they would be more reliable. Unfortunately that is not the case. An external drive would be a better choice.

Anything worth backing up and saving is worth a hard drive or SSD.

For many people (most people?), system files are less valuable than personal data files. System backups can ultimately be replaced by a clean reinstall if nothing else. Not true with data backups---you've got a reliable backup (or two) or you don't.

I'd rather backup system files to a USB drive and backup data files to a hard drive---rather than the other way around. If I were faced with that choice.

USB sticks are just too flimsy---I do use them, but only for sheer portability and handiness. Never as a first or second level backup of anything.

Another vote for using an external drive instead of a flash drive. I have several USB sticks I use for transferring data and I do backup photos onto a 32GB SD card (as well as my notebook, a 2.5" external HDD, and my amazon Cloud Drive while I'm on the road but I transfer the photos to my desktop and back them up to my backup HDDs when I get home, For long term backups, 3.5" HDDs are all I use.
