Where to get missing .dll ?

I’ve tried playing Atari Arcade Hits & can eventually get all of them to work but it typically takes several tries to get the games to properly load.

When I run the main program I get a message that I’m missing the “vids:IV32 decompressor” From doing some searching it appears other people also need this in order to watch movies of videos. This is just one example.

Does anyone here know of a safe site to get a copy of ir32_32.dll, and/or have any experience adding this to the Windows 7 registry?

Hello Mike. You can give this codec pack a try. Cole2k Media | Audio/Video Codecs, Software for Windows 7, Vista, XP It may or may not include the right decompresser. The .dll you referenced is from XP.

Seems to be legitimate. Downloaded without fault directly from the site and scans clear with Avira It should just go in C:/Windows/System

That dll should load when you install the software. Did you download it or from a disc, either way where did you obtain the software from?

IMHO That was not alarmist, more a considered warning!

Mike99, did you do a search for ir32_32.dll ?

I just looked in a Win 7 x64 PC and i see this file in the \Windows\SysWOW64 folder.
I don't have the Atari Arcade Hits, so my guess is this file is from the Windows install.

It's not a question of what I think. I have done a lot of research work in the past 10 years regarding many aspects of IT security and that has made me, I suppose, ultra careful. I just do not see the point of downloading what could possibly be potentially dangerous material when there is absolutely no need to do so! Why take a chance of causing even more problems?
My sole purpose was to make sure the OP was aware of the possible dangers. If he/she or anyone else chooses to ignore that advice then that is entirely their decision.

Oxymoron, I'm not trying to have an argument here, but even a reputable site can host poisoned files of all kinds, they don't monitor them.

This dll in question is a part of Intel graphics drivers, from my system...

My DLL properties are the same as Britton30 posted.
TY Britton30, as that tells me i am not the only one with this DLL in a Win 7 system.

The OP should check if the DLL is in their system.
There may be other problems if the DLL is not there, or is there and not working correctly.
I would start with the System File Check as suggested by mitchell65.
If that doesn't find and fix the problem(s), I'd next start scanning for malware and try a system repair.

fwiw, looking at SF specs:
Britton30 and I have home built systems.
The OP has a pre-built.

I have a Dell machine but I have done a clean install of Windows from a downloaded ISO file (from the official source, I might add) and this DLL file is in two places one is C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-vcm-core-codecs_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_6eaa2afd36b1e303
and
C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Self same file in both locations.
If the OP has the file in just one location then is there anything technically wrong in copying to the other location?

mitchell65, As you did a clean install, i think your Windows environment is really the same as a "custom built".
I doubt Dell would not include this DLL from the factory, but i don't know for sure and that's why i mentioned what i did...
I also have the DLL in the winxsx folder...

I think technically the DLL could be copied, but then it may need to be registered to work.

I still would start with a SFC...
If the OP has to copy this DLL from winxsx, maybe there are more/other system problems ???

I think the OP needs to search for it, and post back with results.
Is it missing, not working, ... ???

I see your point about the clean install. Personally I would recommend the clean install for this problem but it may well be taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Odd that with all the posts and opinins on theis thread apart from the initial post the OP has come back yet!

Two things that come from our own Windows 7 Tutorials. They can't hurt but could solve the problem.
Our Tutorials have been used thousands of times safely.

I did not install the Atari software, which was made for Windows 95/98. It will not install on my Win7 PC & hangs up one on the InstalShield Wizard. But the .exe files will run from the CD-ROM or my HDD which I copied them to.

I Googled “vids:IV32 decompressor” and from what I saw it appeared several people needed this to run videos or movies. And the solution from several websites was to get a copy of “ir32_32.dll” from a Windows 95/98/XP computer, which I don’t have.

Somewhere along the way I was left with the impression this would be in the System32 folder which is where I looked on my Win7 PC & did not find. I did not search the PC because all the other postings I saw said to get it from Windows 95/98/XP. In hindsight I guess I should have. That’s why I was asking for a safe site to get it from.

What is the difference between registering a .dll by doing this:
regsvr32 <path & filename of the dll

Versus doing this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"vidc.iv32"="ir32_32.dll"
