Which Sata Controller Should I Connect SSD To

Which Sata Controller should I connect my SSD to? I will have the OS installed on it.

My GA EX58 UD4P has two sata controllers, one in the ICH10R that controls six sata ports and another sata controller, the Gigabyte SATA2, on a separate chip that controls two more sata ports.

I have two other HDDs, one internal 80GB sata and one 500GB sata in a docking enclosure that is not always connected.

My mind say that I should have the SSD on a controller alone and the other two on the other controller but what do my mind know.

Use the ICH10R on SATA 0. The other ports, controlled by the gigabyte controller, are usually used by the external eSATA plate that come with many of the Gigabyte boards.

So I should connect all Hard Drives to the ICH10R with the SSD to the first port on the ICH10R and the other HDDs on the succeeding ports like:

* SSD to Sata_0
* 80GB to Sata_1
* 500GB to Sata_2
* DVD-RW to Sata_3

And the external eSata back plate and the eSata on the card reader should go to the Gigabyte sata ports?

This will give you the fastest BIOS phase (assuming your MBR will be on the SSD) - although I would put DVD on port0 and push everyone 1 slot down. In case you plan to dual boot, the situation may be different because an MBR may already be on another drive. But I always make an independent installation on my SSDs by disconnecting the HDDs during installation of the OS on the SSD. I then switch between the OSs with the BIOS boot sequence.
