Who has installed ie10? and what do you think?

A new feature that I like is the Startup Option "Start with tabs from last session".
I haven't had any issues with IE10, but still prefer FF as my primary...

The only thing I use IE for is dealing with a company I work for, and that's only because they use MS Exchange for communicating. IE10 for Win7 seems fine for that purpose, although it introduced a bug in an order form that didn't previously exist. Whether it's the fault of IE10 or the design of the form itself, I don't know.

As a web developer I do like the much improved support for standards! And it is definitely faster, where IE9 took forever to launch and load pages (for me, anyway).

Not sure if it's good enough to make IE my default browser again (after 10 years away), but it's a few steps closer.

I just installed IE 10 on a Win 7 64 Bit system and noticed another change from IE 9.
In the "About Internet Explorer" window there is a "Install new versions automatically" checkbox that is checked by default.
I prefer to choose if and when updates are being installed ...
The IE 10 update did not change my Windows Update settings for my preference to notify me before download and install ...

Yeah I don't like that the auto install box is checked by default. Users should be able to control as and when updates are installed. This is why I never let windows updates auto install - you never know what headaches MS is sending down the pipe. Trouble with updates, your damned if you don't and damned if you do - feel compelled to install them for security reasons but they always bring me out in a cold sweat that they can unbalance a perfectly functioning system. Patch Tuesday is never a fun day!!!

Compatibility view is probably the worst part of ie10 I've found but I wouldn't say it was any better in ie9.
But when I loaded ie10 it defaulted to using comp-view without any visual indicators/ never knew until I hit F12 and saw it ?
Once I exited, ie10 reg. was much faster and rendered the pages much better.
Auto updating is controversial I like to wait a couple of days to give time for issue reporting from others.

IE10 Ok By Me

Just installed IE10 no problem. 2009, Ebay Toshiba, A135, W7( 32 bit), 1.73Ghz CPU, 2G RAM.

Had been using IE9 only with no problems. I had MSE, Free Avast, Spywareblaster, and MBAM all installed when I inloaded IE10.

Also had all of past critical/recommended updates installed, no problem. The most noticeable difference is the scroll bar on right side seems more obvious. I think it is wider than it was in IE9.

I unchecked the automatic updates also. Thanks for that find DW7.

I haven't installed it for the following reasons.

1. I've never liked IE and never used it.
2. I've read too many bad things about it.
3. Firefox, Chrome or Opera work perfectly for me.

rybosix I noticed you have MSE and Avast at the same time. Most of the time running two anti viruses at the same time will cause problems sooner or later. I would recommend picking one and uninstalling the other using their online tool to do so.

After a few initial problems it appears to have settled down and is much like IE9 with some webpages loading faster - will continue its use unless something drastic happens.

Thanks LB For Your Concern

Thanks for advice LB, I feel ok with this configuration. I will post on the security thread if I experience any problems in future using these two simultanesously in real time. MSE detected and prevented EICAR from being inloaded, with no apparent--- above the surface ---problematic conflicts with Avast.

Somebody in another thread posted a link for me to read about all the potential problems of running two AV's in real time. I never did go to that link. I forget where I read it( twice )-- maybe? on and Avast thread ---that those two play well together so I've been convinced since then.

My simplistic guinea pig experiments, confirm that there is not a problem in at least my given, one set of circumstances, and yes I'm well aware that every virus or malicious bug, poses a potentially different set of circumstances.

However, some around here also praise some of the best security technigues being smart in our selections of what we open, or not. Hopefully I will be a smart and a lucky guinea pig. Brink suggested Belarc to me and I do get a low security score there.

I cant tell if IE10 opens pages any faster or not. MS says it is more secure, so I believe them. Other than not having and external something or another that I can boot from, I feel like I'm close to being where I want to be and feeling safe in the PC world.

Thanks again for you concerns. r6
