People say it's supported but when I try to install it, it says that setup has failed or something like that. Anything I can do?

It says "Adobe Setup has stopped working" and underneath it says " Windows is collecting more information about the problem. this might take several minutes". And then it just asks me if I want to send in more information about the problem. So basically it's an error message that does not give any helpful information.

I tried compatibility mode, running it as administrator and both. Anything else I can do?

EDIT: This also comes up. When I try doing the steps, something doesn't work. The user account control window doesn't come up for some reason.

"An issue with the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) client in Windows 7 beta is causing Explorer and some MSI-based installers to stop working properly.
To solve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
    SecurityBadge_16x16.gif
In the User Account Control window, verify that Program name is Windows Command Processor, and then click Yes.
  3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type or paste the following text at the prompt:
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f
  4. Press Enter to install the solution.
  5. If The operation completed successfully displays, close the Administrator: Command Prompt window to complete this procedure. If "ERROR: Access is denied" displays, repeat this procedure from the top, making sure you clicked Run as administrator in step two."

Trouble with CS4 Extended

Hey the message that I am getting when i try and install extended cs4 is as follows:

! Warning

The minimum system requirements listed below are recommended in order to run Adobe Photoshop CS4 properly and are not met:
Windows XP 64-Bit Service Pack 1 and greater
Windows Vista 64-Bit Service Pack 1 and greater
It is recommended that you upgrade or adjust your system to meet these minimum requirements and the restart the installer.

Quit Continue

Any ideas I tried going to command prompt to fix the problem. I am running 7 64 bit. I downloaded the "trial" version from Adobe's website.

Thanks

what happens if you click continue?

Does it install? That error, is just informing you... Since this is a beta, they may not have a tag or something in the installer which says Windows 7 will be a compatible OS (which likely wont be fixed till release of Win 7).

To some users, have you tried turning off UAC temporarily?

How I Loaded CS4

I was running CS4 Master Suite on my Windows 7 32-Bit installation and decided to start over with a 64-Bit install. I wiped my machine and loaded Windows 7 64-Bit Enterprise. When I tried to install CS4, I kept receiving the same message "setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. contact adobe customer support for assistance". I could not find any help on the web but I did find a lot of other people experiencing the same issue. Finally, I turned off the "User Account Control Settings", rebooted the PC and CS4 installed without issue. I would suggest turning this back on to at least the lowest setting after installation.

Hope this help,
SysAdmn2

found out why it won't install, still need a solution

I've been trying for days to install CS4 production (DVD/CD version) on my brandy new dell xps 9000 with windows 7 home 64 bit (i do have access to the upgrade if i need that) and getting nowhere with the programs, i get that it's not a valid microsoft installation package, i've tried the regedit fix mentioned here (i didn't have that key), the creating a c:/temp directory and pointing myself there, turning off virus scan, firewall, ad aware, etc, clicking on the install and running as admin and in a lower compatible version of windows...nothing, i've unistalled, cleaned up, etc....BUT for the heck of it, i downloaded JUST premiere from the website and that worked fine (but of course it won't take my serial number!!!)
i paid a lof ot $$$ for the software, i called adobe yesterday and got another number to call for tech support on monday, but i've had experience with them (from work) and they are generally no help...any other suggestions? thanks!

btw, i finally tried downloading just premiere and that works fine!~ but my registration code doesn't work with it! so it's definitely something in adobe's installation package on the DVD

I've got a similar problem. When I want to install Adobe CS4 the setup freezes while "preparing for installation". I tried to copy the dvd to pc, and tried also the compatibilitymodus, but nothing helped. Has anyone an idea to fix this problem?

i finally got it to install by downloading the whole freakin' package, it worked fine with my serial number (had to get the entire CS4 production to do this) then i talked to adobe again (like the 5th time) and after that, chat, and several posts with a help ticket (that they kept closing with no responses) they agreed to send me a new set of disks (that arrived the other day, but since i'm installed, i haven't used them)

so that's what i had to do, i tried everything that i found on here and on the web and nothing worked....

setup.exe doesnt install, lame excuses from phone suppo

havent been able to get setup.exe to set up for cs4 web package. i get swriling icon for a few seconds then nothing. it still runs in task manager hours later i notice. wont uninstall either. i made mistake of tell tech support i tried downloading it twice, as thats usallly first thing they tell you to brush you off, download it again. it was about a 12 hour download with highspeed starbucks wireless as it was. so they blamed the previous download. they also blamed using a trial version of flash 4, inadequate computer specs ( my computer is a new $1500 viao x) and virouses (again its new computer, not likely virous), which i was also unable to uninstall to i had to just erase the folder manually. anyway my old computer with vista ran both the trail versioons of flash 4 and cs4 premium and i was able to run the trail of flash cs4 for the 30 days, but as mentioned before couldnt uninstall it under programs and features. anyway may keep calling tech support till i get someone who doesnt brush me off. sugggest not telling them if you have tried downloading it more than once, they will use this as excuse to brush you off.

found a useful agent on setup.exe prob with adobe cs4

i see 216 others have posted questions on this issue on the adobe forum from searching "setup.exe", including myself, so i'm just responding to the recent ones there and am self-responding to this issue here.

i recently downloaded trails of flash cs4 and web premium package cs4 (took a day to download at high speed starbuck's internet). couldnt get the setup.exe to work or the uninstaller to work. surfing tech support over next couple weeks to try various agents was useless and expensive until i finally reached someone with useful info. all the agents had foriegn accents and read from scripts and web support pages until yesterday, when i reached a guy who told me two things i'll report to various forums addressing this same issue:

1. download the "windows install clean up" program from window's website (google: windows install cleanup) to uninstall everything adobe. then go through your folders to erase any adobe remnants. this program is different from the uninstaller that doesnt work in the programs and features area of the control panel when you try to uninstall adobe products from there.

2. windows explorer 8, the newest version, DOES NOT download adobe software properly and leaves things out, causing all sorts of issues including the setup.exe program not working. download firefox browser from mozella (google: firefox) and use it for all adobe downloads. apparently the old windows explorer 7 will work, but if you already have explorer 8 installed its easiest to just use firefox.

i'm spending the next couple days downloading the 4.14 G web premium trail with firefox and will report if this works.

cant install flash cs4 w/out blue screen crash, & cs3

I have also run into problems trying to install CS4 products from adobe and I run Windows 7 ultimate.

the first time I tried was with Adobe After Effects CS4 and 3/4 of the way through my install my system shut down, went to a blue screen (I took a picture of it with my phone and can email attach it to anyone) and then the computer restarted, coming back up normal.

I tried Flash CS4 and had the same problem. Each time I have cleaned using the Adobe utility, checked all parts and bits that could be laying around, and restarted. I even ran a defrag and checked my registry. Each time I get the same crash--3/4 of the way thru the loading of the application.

I also have some CS3 apps and they installed fine when I did them months ago, but strangely enough, I could not install Flash CS3 now! In the case of Flash cs3, I actually was able to install it once but had to take it off for another non related reason. Since then, however, I cannot install it. It goes thru the install load and then says Flash did not load due to errors. I take it all out again (using adobe clean utility and checking uninstall progs) and it happens again. It doesn't crash with the CS3 install but it doesn't install.

For both Flash CS3 and CS4 I have run into the same two problems at least 4 times each. I have written to Adobe about the CS4 one and am awaiting a response. I am sure that will involve a volley of emails and jumping through hoops so it's all rather frustrating to say the least.

I run Kaspersky IS 2010 and it has never flagged anything. If prompted, I would have allowed any install. I have enough RAM (3.5 gigs--max would be 4) and I have 80+ gigs of free space on a very clean hard drive. I keep everything on an external.

More recently-within the last 24hrs... for some reason my 'uninstall programs' wont show anything except newly installed apps like from yesterday (for example, I installed a new mozilla firefox and also CCleaner) Nothing else shows up there! I do use a tool called 'Revo uninstaller' which shows most of the apps in your system and runs much like the standard one. Again, I would have started with the Adobe Utility, though.

I am going to assume the CS3 issue is a sep problem and the thing I am concerned with the most is why I cannot install any CS4 apps on my Dell C521 desktop.

Thank you
=)MM

update--it still happens even after new help

I just tried again--

Flash CS4. trial version.

I had run Adobe CS4 Clean Script,
I had run Windows Install Clean Up
I turned off the "User Account Control Settings"

3/4 the way through... BOOM! Crash-blue screen. Auto restart. Computer comes back up fine.

Use above things to remove all instances of anything CS4.

I have NO idea what's going on. I have 32bit by the way. I am not running anything else on the machine. There's no viruses. What's Adobe going to tell me?

This just plain sucks.

After quickly browsing through this thread, I didn't see the minimum RAM requirement mentioned. You have to have AT LEAST 2GB's of memory installed, or CS4 won't install properly. I ran into this on one of my older machines when installing the the Adobe Master Collection.
