Why does IE get so much dislike?

I don't use it mainly because it is much slower than either Firefox or Chrome, it lacks in features and add ons, and is invasive in the OS. For the latter reason, I don;t have it installed on Windows 7 and have configured my system to not update to it. Plus I can't use it on my Mac so I can't have a uniform environment across PC and MAC.

My main browser is Firefox followed by Chrome. Firefox has more functionality than chrome, is slower at some things, but faster at others.

For one example, the quick link launch is tied to Internet explorer. Why is that? It is a Windows property, not Internet explorer.

I have tried IE9 several times and it has negatively impacted my windows performance every time. Once installed, you cannot uninstall it and go back to IE8. So try and do a system restore to a point before your IE9 install. Seems OK, right? But if you do an sfc, you will get system inconsistencies. Whoops. Restore from backup time. It just seems like such a mess to me.

I loved IE when I first used a computer. Then eventually I loved Firefox until it got buggy a year ago. Now I use Opera and would not go back to either of them.

Honestly. I always used IE, even when it was just a baby. One day my friend told me about Firefox and I got hooked. I rarely use IE now, the first time IE9 was released, nothing would open. It was crashing everything. When google chrome came out I tried the beta and I thought it was a joke. I've tried it since and it's decent, though if you open just one GC and look in task manager, for some strange reason 3+ are running. Firefox has a flaw, first time I use it for the day it freezes just that once on start up (I think it's my Internet) I just really don't like IE, it's very original, nothing really makes me say WOW! Again though, opinions are opinions.

Cheers:)

I think it's fair to say, that all browsers fail.

No one can deny this fact. Some are more LARGELY reported because of the amount of sheer users.

The way i see it you guys like your browsers, when they work :)

I think next time someone asked me for suggestion or advice on a browser I know what to say :D

For me, IE9 is the best browser around. I am still struggling with IE10, but it looks like an excellent browser too. I tried FF a few times - what a disaster. For special purposes I use Chrome, Opera and Safari. They are all OK, but not more.

In Ubuntu I use Chromium, that is a lot better than this disaster FF which is the default browser

Does IE9 prove the non-existance of God? Why DOES it get so much dislike? Simple. TCO. Total cost of ownership has a LOT to do with how much F'n time I waste with it. If it didn't have Microsoft's name on it I would never consider using it, but it does, so like a moth to a flame, I burn in the corporate hell that is IE9. Figuratively speaking of course. :)

I absolutely love IE9. I have used it for a full year, but just recently, I wanted something a little different, so switched to my other favorite: Opera. It's not because IE9 is worse or anything. Everyone is bashing IE because of the media, and everyone seems to listen to the media. (Except for our forum members).

I went through all the 31 threads albeit quickly and there were just 3 references to Opera. Opera is an excellent Browser but there are very few takers for it.

As for IE 3 through 9, my aversion to it is due to its GUI. Earlier Netscape had a far better GUI and I preferred it over IE 3 to 5. Now all the competitors of IE 6 to 9 have better GUIs. Many Net users are casual surfers and don't grow much with experience. One such friend of mine asked me the other day to get his AVG Internet Security registered on line because he and his techie were unable to do it. The only Browser on his laptop was IE8 because he knew of none other. And due to dozens of toolbars that had got installed on it by various programs, the space left for the open web-page at the bottom was about 5 centimetres.

Many programs during installation append a toolbar to IE if one is not careful and hardly ever to the other Browsers, least of all to Opera. Left to myself I shall keep away from IE and WMP for ever if Microsoft doesn't do something about IE's GUI and third party Toolbars and more codecs to WMP.

The problem with Opera is that it is so damn slow. And then there are new versions every 5 minutes. I have used it since 4 years as an additional browser. But for my normal work I prefer the IE.

Chrome is faster than any other browser i have tried on my laptop.I guess for every system there is a browser which fits it the most.Seriously the difference in opening n rendering websites is marginal in most of the modern browsers. Its just that for us fast paced and less patience generation even millisecond of delay is enough to rack up our nerves.

Personally, I found Google Chrome is faster then IE 9 with a better GUI for the user, however, I wouldn't judge IE 9 as being a bad browser, my step brother still tends to use IE 9 more often than Google Chrome.

Honestly? It is the layout. While IE now has many of the features I like from FireFox (tabs, bookmarks bar), it still is not the same and is very limited in what can and cannot be changed with it. And what I mean by the layout is all of the controls are all over the place... and there is a tiny little address bar. I don't like that. And I especially hate that little "click" it does when you do ANYTHING with it (that may or may not have changed, I wouldn't know. I don't touch it anymore unless I'm forced too). It is also, IMHO, far slower to load pages than the others.

I don't even mind anymore that FireFox and Chrome both are excessive memory eaters and crash out when flash is excessively used (YouTube, games etc). I'd rather TaskMan the processes out and keep using them than to deal with the mess that IE still is and I dare say will always be.

On the other hand, if the IE team would get a clue and change some things around, become more add-on friendly, allow easy modding (like on FireFox, About:Config easy as cake to alter to make things faster or whatever else you want to do) and get some decent skins (like say, a good black theme that's easier on the eyes)... then perhaps I'll trade in my FireFox and Chrome for it again. But for now? No freaking way!
