Wi-fi problem

Hi, I have a small Wi-fi problem with one of the households laptops.
We have 4 computers in our house: 3. Laptops and 1. PC

Here are some details about each computers which you might want to know:

The PC:
HP COMPAQ 9500
Windows XP Professional v2002 SP3
Intel ( R ) PRO / 100 VE Network Connection
Ralink RT2500 Wireless LAN Card


The Laptops:
HP mini note
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition - 32 bit
Broadcom 802.11 Multiband Network Adapter
Broadcom NetLink ( TM ) Gigabit Ethernet


Macbook 13
Mac OS X - 10.5.8
AirPort Extreme ( 0x168C, 0x87 )
autofs


HP nw9440
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition - 32 bit
Intel (R) PRO / Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet


Router:
SMC 7904WBRA
Download Speed: 4.19Mb/s
Upload Speed: 0.48Mb/s
WPA security

Now when you know all this I can come to my question.
- I recently added a password to our router
And everything workout great, except for the HP nw9440, Because every time I try to connect to our Wi-Fi it just gives me a Troubleshoot and then later on it will connect.
I know it isn't anything with the router itself because:

1. It worked perfectly before
2. It works perfectly on every other computer in the house
3. If I connect the HP nw9440 to the router using a cable it works perfectly.

I set all the requirements as it has to be to be able to connect to the router, that meaning: I have done:
- The WPA - PSK + the password
- Even set the Name manually.
But still I get the Troubleshoot ( and only on this laptop ).

P.S: The HP nw9440 had no problems with the Wi-Fi before I added the pasword.

So if anyone knows the answer, I would really love to know what it is

Is the WLAN driver up to date? The newest drivers are available from HP Compaq nw9440 Mobile Workstation*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center.

I gather this PC is quite old, hardware (especially broadcasting hardware) has a limited lifespan and it may just be it's getting on a bit; I have a similar issue that I just gave up on, one of my laptops is about 8 years old and won't connect to secure networks at all.

Try changing the security type to WEP or WPA2 and see if that helps.

Postback with any results or if you need some more help.

Yeah, the laptop is from around. 2004 - 2005 ( I think ).

Well I tried to change the WPA to WPA2 / WEP ones before and it didn't work.

Then I tried to see if updating the drivers would help anything ( as you said ), I'm using Windows 7 so I tried to choose: "Update driver" but it seams like all the network drivers are all up to date.

I also tried to just go online to download the drivers, ( from the HP support site ) and because the laptop is so old, I could only get drivers for XP and Vista.

But I still tried out the Vista drivers because I know Windows 7 supports some of the Vista drivers, but with no luck ( p.s: the Vista drivers where even older than the current network drivers )

So I am back on ground zero. I want to thank you for your help, and if you have any more ideas I would love to hear them
