If you create an image of win7, the programs and files can you then use this to add scheduled regular backups of changed files and then be able to restore if needed?

I have tried to find an answer to this but have not been able to
Thank you very much

With many paid programs, you can.. I use Acronis True Image Home 2010 and I can do incremental backups to my current image without any problems... Im not sure whether Windows 7 native backup program will do this or not... See Brinks tutorial -=> here

I have read that article and others and none have addressed this.
I have looked into Acronis 2010. I need something that I can setup on my clients computers to backup a complete image as well as incremental backups. I am hoping that Windows can do that so I dont have to spend $50.00 per license.
Thank you for your reply

I'm not sure if they do incremental, but you can try the free versions of Acronis True Image.

Look into Macrium Reflect. Last time I checked, it was free, but I don't recall if it did incremental backups.

I am not aware of any free ones that do incremental, or differential, sorry.

Macrium doesn't - neither do the crippled Acronis versions that are actually free add ons to certain drive makes - and only work with those drives.

That's a good to know, but for me, it isn't important at home. I just do a full backup once a week.

One of the cool things about Acronis TIH 2010 (and some earlier versions) is that you can schedule the number of incremental backups it makes before doing a full backup again (and deleting the old incrementals), all automatically. So, for example, I have mine set to do daily incrementals (first one is always full by default) and after 5 of those, it starts over with a full (deleting the old archives) and then starts doing daily incrementals again until 5 are reached, and then that cycle just keeps repeating unless and until I decide to change it. Very convenient.

Yup - that's kind of the point of using 3rd party apps. - more options, flexibility, etc.

I am currently testing Paragon DB10. It has p2v, v2p, and p2p functions built in.

The OP was looking for a free one that does incremental/differential sector based backups - I don't know any - do you?

None that Im aware of, however his clients should be willing to pony up $50.00 for a key part of their disaster recovery program... compared to the alternative, its only pennies...
