Hi there,

I'm having big problems with my connection and have looked for 3 weeks now and tried all the fixes. Still got this problem with either my adaptor or something!! Someone please help me!!
I’ve installed win 7 64 bit on a formatted hard drive as my only operating system, That is all I’ve done. I can connect to the internet but only get a web page up about 5% of the time. I have tried to ping Google and get a 50 to 75% packet loss. I've looked at the bytes sent and received and I seem to be sending more than receiving!! my router connectivity lights are flashing all the time. I've tried resetting Winsock, ip renew/release, updating drivers and using a fixed ip address. My knowledge is limited about these things and I’ve gone as far as i can with out some help! My network adapter is on an abit quad gt board and i'm using a netgear router. I've also changed my lead to rule this out!! I have 2 other pc's at home, 1 running vista, connects fine and 1 running win 7 (laptop) and this runs fine!!
Please can someone help its driving me mad!!

Many thanks in advanced,

Forgot to say that I have also tried turned all firewalls off as well!!

Chad

Open your task manager,
Click performance tab,
open resource monitor.
Click network.
Anything using your network will list there, including amounts of information sent and received.

That may help you some.

Just out of curiosity, do you have home group disabled?

Just for the protocol... You are connecting the pc via cable or wireless ? And did you tried to change the cables??? Try using this pc with other cable.... What about ping losses to the router??? Not google, but your router or any other pc in your local network...

If you want help you need to fill out your system specs and list all the hardware being used to access the internet. List the full router model and version number also please.

It's a fairly easy process to check and see if the hardware is compatible with Windows 7.

It's a cable connection. I've tried a new cable and one from a working pc and still no joy! I've just tried pinging my router (a netgear DG834G v5) a few times and i'm losing 25 to 50% of the packets!! the network adaptor on my motherboard (abit quadGT) is a realtek PCI GBE Family controller. I've managed to get my home page working once, it just loaded up!! i tried to go further and it just told me page cannot be displayed. I'm recieving about the same bytes as i'm sending ! it should be more than that!! this is driving me mad now!!

The router is compatible so that isn't the problem.

There is no official Windows 7 driver support for your abit board as yet. I can do a better search if I had the exact name and number of your mobo. Yes you need the eithernet driver for your board. The Vista one may work it's hard to say for sure.

There are a few versions of that board so getting the number may help us to track down some NIC drivers that might work.

Are you running Kaspersky Internet Security ? This attaches an NDIS Internet Filter to the adapters and this stopped mine from working correctly. I removed the Filter in the adapter Properties and it now works fine.

I had a similiar problem due to Security software. It took away 20-30% of my bandwidth.

Here's a couple of things to do....

1. Make sure your network drivers and Router firmware are updated.
Check your Router settings

2. Go into SAFE mode (hold F8 at boot)and see if the issue still occurs. If not, it is probably an application that is being loaded at start in normal mode.

3. First things to look at are security software. Remove any security software althogether and see if you still get bandwidth issues. If yes, add them back in one by one to see which one impacts. If you just have the one software, check the settings to see if is has some type of network or web shield. You don't really need a firewall other than your Routers.

4. Look at all running processes under Task Manager and END process one by one (the ones that you can) to see if any of them cause the problem.

5. Windows 7 manages TCP/IP settings automatically, so there is very little to tweak. It tends to be an application using bandwidth resource (uTorrent, Skype, Antivirus, Antispyware, or any network application that may be running in the background.) It maybe a matter of elimination

Please see my query above

http://www.sevenforums.com/network-...y-controller-eratic-behaviour.html#post482364

- which relates to the same Realtek Device operating under the same W7 64bit environment. This worked fine under 32bit on same hardware, I think it may be a 64bit driver problem that somehow gets it self in a twist after a while. My connection has been very erratic. I have now reverted to version 7.3.522.2009 which seems more stable than 1127...
Please let me know if you find the fault!!

I also kept getting the message that the cable was faulty - I did notice the connection lights went out and changed the cable which worked fine but then got the same messages again.

I just get the feeling that it is sort of random and definitely the driver.
