Solved Win 7 patch KB 2952 664, error 8007 3701

A few days ago there was a message about a Win 7 patch, KB 2952 664. I attempted to download this and received error 8007 3701, several times. This issue has been discussed on other threads, going back to April 2014, if not earlier.

This seems odd. How is it that an important patch first noted in April 2014 appears in August 2016?

From what I can find out KB 2952664 is a compatibility update for seeing if your computer can be updated to Windows 10.

If you do not intend to update to Windows 10 I would not bother with it. I notice that it was included in an update on my computer on April 1, 2016, but it did not install as I have blocked Windows 10 installation.

Thanks for that advice. The link is from Octobe 2015 and says:
"I would only add that if you intend to do an in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, wait and see if there's a KB 2952664 version 7 or 8 or 9."
I'm happy with Win 7, will not be going to Win 10. At least the reminder has now gone. I'm unfamiliar with the way patches are labelled, but surely if there's nine versions they would have different numbers. Odd. I'll ignore this reminder for a few days and see if anything bad happens. Like Win 10 reminders I'd like to block KB 2952 664. (I space out the longish numbers to make them easier to read.)

If it shows up again & you don't want it, just right click on it & select Hide. That will stop it showing up again.

Over the last few days I've had a message about the download. The first one looks like the small one below. I right clicked and it vanished. Next time I left clicked and got the big one. (I still cannot see how to put images where they are meant to be.)

Hence, I'm unable to see how or where right clicking assists. Advice to clarify this point would be appreciated. Thanks.

@ Tharwatime. On the screen shot you supplied, click on "1 important update is available" & that will open up a new window showing the update. Untick it & then Right click on it & select Hide. Then close that window & then close Windows Updates.

To further clarify this, clicking on "updates are available" will always show what updates are available & you can then tick them if want to install them if they aren't already ticked, or you can untick them & select Hide if you don't want to install them. If you then have updates you want installed, close this window & then click on "Install updates" & the updates will be installed.

Ranger4, brilliant, worked a treat. I've had the box on and off several times and there's been no more reminders. There were some 54 MB of Win 7 patches today, all okay, installed. It would be nice if ways of stopping unwanted downloads were made more obvious. No matter. I'll leave the thread open for a few more days and then mark it solved. Mega thanks.
