Win-7 RC install problem

I've a Dell Studio 540 and its spec has been confirmed as ok for Win7 usage by the Window Upgrade Advisor.
As I require Dual System boot facilities (Vista/Win7) I've partitioned my HD, downloaded and burnt Win7RC onto a start-up CD and attempted to install the Win7RC system.
Installation proceeds perfectly until the final re-boot where the screen indicates ""SetUp is Starting Services"" but then it stops with the message:-

X Windows could not finish configuring the system and will attempy to restart.

I cannot get beyond this point so would apprec advice

Could you tell us abt your win 7 image. where you got it, how you burned it, etc.

Hi Ken - Win 7 obtained from MS site and was burned using Roxio

SD - maybe you have a bad DVD - did you verify the burn?

Ouch! Roxio?!

I can point to you towards a few free or free versions of programs that will see excellent resuilts as far as burning the images to disk. The media used of course is a different matter there if you ran into a bad bunch.

The oldie for XP is ImgBurn free from The Official ImgBurn Website

The free version of StarBurn works like a champ for a variety of ISO images. :: RocketDivision :: CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD recording and mastering

I spend a C note($100) for Roxio and ended up hardly ever using it!

You're welcome! You may want to run memtest or another memory stress tester in case a dimm has developed a fault. That's another thing that hamper the Windows installation process.

Im just wondering abt the "x" windows thing. was the x a typo?

DJG - Thks for yr msg, yes I did verify the burn and the installation disk installs 99% of Win 7 and only fails after the last re-boot when it states:-

"Startup is updating registry settigs"

followed by:-

"Setup is starting services"

And then the error msg:-

"X Windows could not finish configuring the system and will attempt to restart at next boot"

After further tries at rebooting from the dual bootup menu it happens exactly the same as explained above.

It sounds like something didn't fully copy to the drive namely one of the setup files. Every so often you'll run into a problem install like this where you end up starting all over in order to see a full working copy go on.

The question here is how you setting up the dual boot itself? on the same drive? or across two separate drives?
