A newly-built Win 7 system operated normally, including wake from sleep by keyboard and mouse, until a second USB3 Anker hub was connected. The first Anker hub worked normally. The system keyboard and wireless mouse are plugged into the first Anker USB3 hub. After connecting the second, identical, Anker hub the system turned off after time-out (no blinking green power light) instead of entering Sleep and could be started only by the Power button, causing Win7 to offer the black screen Start Normally, which it always did. Disconnecting the second Anker USB3 hub corrected this problem. This series of events repeats; it is a hard failure. I then connected the same second Anker USB3 hub while the system was running and Win7 reported that "iusb3mon has stopped working." The second Anker hub was unplugged and the system rebooted; Task Manager reports iusb3mon task is running. Clearly, the second Anker hub is preventing entry into normal Sleep mode. But, after all this, neither the keyboard nor the mouse will wake the computer from Sleep; the Power button does wake the system. "devicequery wake_armed" reports both the HID-compliant mouse and the MS keyboard are set to wake the system, though neither does.

I know of no reason one cannot have two identical USB3 hubs connected concurrently. Yet, the second Anker hub has surely introduced some problems; perhaps it is defective, though it does function with a thumb drive plugged into it for test. I've cold booted numerous times and changed the sleep wait period with no change in how the system wakes.

Suggestions?

Is this a powered hub? It may be taxing your PSU or unable to produce power required on its own.

Try System Restore to before this all was done to see if you get the sleep timeouts restored. Are you using Hibernate? I set sleep to 30 and Hibernate to 60 on all of my installs as users love the convenience of being able to walk away without worrying about saving their work, for an hour or a week.

General troubleshooting steps are here for Sleep Mode Problems.

Hubs Are Powered

The two Anker USB3 hubs are Model AH231 and each is a powered hub with 9 USB3 data ports. The problems I describe appeared only after I installed the second one of these Anker hubs. In fact, with the second, identical model, Anker hub connected, the system will not enter Sleep at all; it turns completely OFF, causing Windows to complain when restarted, but starting Windows when Start Windows Normally is selected. With the second Anker hub removed, the system enters Sleep normally. I'm assuming the second hub is defective, though this is uncertain as it does function as a USB hub with a thumb drive plugged into it. But even after removing the second Anker hub and entering Sleep normally, the system will not wake by keyboard or mouse, though it always wakes from the console On button. Do we all agree there is no problem having two identical USB3 hub connected concurrently?

No, because there is a problem. USB hubs often present problems.

If you plug in the second hub which is causing the problem in place of the first one, does it function correctly?
