Win7 HP mouse cursor a vertical line

Hi all, would anyone know what the most likely candidate is to cause this problem. I have looked on line and there are several mentions of this but no fix. The problem is intermittent and sporadic. This is a new Win7 installation with a new M/B CPU and Ram also video card Radeon RX 470. My old installation never had this concern same set up other than stated. The mouse pointer still functions but is a vertical line made up of semi circles. Going into mouse settings in Control Panel makes no difference. Would appreciate any help if possible. Restarting the Computer fixes the concern for a while but problem may or may not happen for a period of time. Regards Peter

Have you reinstalled the MS mouse software or tried updating the mouse driver. Reinstalling the software is self explanatory. To check & update the mouse driver open Control Panel, select Device Manager, then look for Mice & other pointing devices. Double click on the appropriate one & try updating driver.

Are all of your Windows updates current? I had the same problem with a PC at work, and just never bothered to fix it. The problem went away on its own. I suspect its a Windows update that fixed the issue, but I'm sorry, I don't know which one.

Hi Mellon Head, thank you for the help. Indeed this morning there were 4 updates in additional updates relating to Intel and wireless Keyboard and Mouse. I have installed these and will let you know if the concern is fixed. May take a couple of days. Regards Peter
