Solved Win7 on acer R3, bluetooth but no wifi

Hi,
Yesterday I installed Win7 Ultimate from the insomnia crowd. Went OK, but the WIFI adapter is gone without a trace. The only thing I find in the Device Manager are two bluetooth adapters, that can be toggled on or off with the fn+f3 key.


I see there are a lot of people that lost the bluetooth and kept the WIFI, but with me it is the other way around.
Before I had Win10 on this laptop, where Wifi worked flawlessly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You need to download the drivers for it assuming there are drivers for 7 its allways worth checking if 7 drivers are availabe before install as now its out of support new drivers arnt being written

Thank you for your reply. When the Acer R3 was new I saw if offered for sale with Win7 so presumably there must haven been drivers.



I want to try Win7 as 4 Gigabyte for Win10 is a bit meagre and I had stability problems.




Solved it this afternoon as follows:


Initially I was stymied by the fact that the wifi was not even listed in the device manager, whereas two Bluetooth devices were listed under Network. There was an entry in 'Other devices' with a name like 'Network Connection' and the yellow exclamation mark.
Then 'properties' -> 'Details' -> 'Device description' -> 'hardware ids' gave the names of candidate drivers. I tried the first one 'PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3165&SUBSYS_40108086&REV_81', downloaded it, waited a rather long time for the installation, and Bingo!


Funny thing is: the Bluetooth devices have disappeared. I don't use BT on this laptop, so no harm done.
