Win7 shares inaccessible by XP until reboot of Win7

Ok, another Network problem I'm having is that the 9 shares that I have on my Win7 machine are shared among a small network with a couple of Vista machines, 1 Win7 machine and a couple of XP machines and even one Mac. Every once in a while when users on the XP machines try to use the shares, they are prompted with a username and password, and no matter what is entered they are not allowed access, even a good account and password on the Win7 machine. They are told that the shares cannot be found, however they can still ping the Win7 machine, and they previously used the shares for days without problems. A reboot of the XP machine has no effect, however rebooting my Win7 (then manually readding the shares) clears it up. Again, WHY!

This I could see as being a bug, but it's still a pretty big one. Any help would be appreciated!

No responses or resolution to this? I'm having this very same problem - for many months now! Have been searching many forums. No luck!

Any ideas?

Dear Dungbeetle, Spyhunter, and probably many others,

Exact the same problem here.
There was a problem with saved wrong passwords of the xp machines (credentials) found in start-config-user accounts.
But after solving this, the problem stayed.
Xp can connect to Win7 shared directories, but gives Acces Denied after a period that differs every time (phew hours til day's). A reboot of windows 7 solves the problem for a while.
Trie'd a lot of things in Group Policy Network Lt&Ntlm rights, but nothing solves the problem.
i have heard that Antivirus would also mess up things, but disabeling Antivirus is not an option.

Only Windows XP to Windows 7 Shares have this problems,
Windows Vista and Windows 7 to Windows 7 don't have this problem at all.

What is going on here????
Anybody?

Found the following settings, tested it in production environment for a week, and had no problems at all!!
Windows Vista to Windows 7 Share had the same problems, so also apply this fix if so.

Apparently you need to tell Windows that you want to use the machine as a file server and that it should allocate resources accordingly.

Set the following registry key to ‘1':
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache = set to ‘1’

and set the following registry key to ‘3':
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size = set to ‘3’

After making these changes and restarting, I haven’t seen this issue arise again. Fixed!

Make sure that the date and time is in sync on all machines. You may need to adjust the date and time in bios also.
