win7x64 adobe x ms visual c++ runtime error

Win 7x64, Adobe reader x. When I try to open a pdf I get ms visual c++ runtime library error. Application terminates in an unusual way. The weird thing is I can open pdf's in google chrome and don't get error. Can't open with ie explorer do get error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled adobe 2 times without relief. Any help appreciated.
