Windows 10 Upgrade Query

I have just purchased and installed Windows 7 (Home) with the intention of upgrading to W 10 via the Microsoft's Updates. The trouble is my Disc came with SP 1 only installed and there are literally hundreds of security and other updates needing to be installed which will take ages to complete. My question is :- Do I have to install all prior updates in order to accept the offer or can I simply install KB3035583 - KB3021917 - KB 2952664 which appear to be those containing the W 10 offer?

No need to install Win 7 at all. Install Win 10 and give it the Win 7 install key, should work fine.

You have W7 installed for upgrading free W10 and it will have its own updates. Don't worry about
W7 updates unless you have probs or just don't like W10 and want to go back to W7. Then you update.
If you have already installed personal data in W7 you need a system image prior W10 update so you can recover.
Good luck. I had W10, restored my W7, installed W10 again and still went back and recovered W7.
When I have the patience I will eventually get W10 and learn it. Gotta be in right state of mind.

Many thanks to you both your response. Unfortunately, the link provided by Ztruker frightened the life out of me, so I am going to stick to my original plan as suggested by Baddog22556 and not load the updates, other than those containing the W10 upgrade offer. As you say I can always go back to W7 if I don't get on with W10.

Just for the record, there is no other disc other then Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Rapporman, the 200 hundred + updates is normal, but you don`t need them all, as mentioned.

The guide Z linked by Brink is no different then installing Windows 7.

Although it looks like it`s for the Insider Preview and not the RTM.

Not sure why you bought 7 and not 10 ????

For the moment, all that's clear is that the Windows 10 free upgrade is not an upgrade: It's a marketing and promotional activity. Way too many details to explain the amount of money M$ will save off this.
But if you're curious: Free Windows 10 is not an upgrade … it's marketing!

That's the impression I got. Will discuss the implications of 10 with my company's network admin after the new year, but I don't think he's impressed, either.
