Hello,
I am looking for a free program to erase my W7 PC and all its data. Please can you recommend one, perhaps one that can be downloaded onto a USB Drive. Thanks

Secondly this might be of help to someone. Recently I started having the blue screen problem shutdown on my PC when watching videos. After 17 years of use this never happened before in W7. I have always had my PC power option settings (set a power plan) set to high performance. One small change to Balanced(recommended) has cured the problem. Hope that helps.

THanks F22 Simpilot

I will try Dban. I would have liked to remove the hard drive but I don't have the tools to get into both a laptop and a PC. I am going to try Dban though.

It shouldn't be hard to remove a hard drive from a laptop. Sometimes a quick YouTube search may shed some light. Same with a desktop.

It requires small specific screw drivers which I don't have. I have already tried to open a Dell Tower. Whilst I got the back off the Disk is quite inaccessible under metal guards. Short Of using a sledgehammer I don't know what to try. But I will try Dban first.

DBAN zero-each-sector-once is all you need. This is an HDD, not an SSD, correct?

Amazon or eBay, etc sell lots of computer tool kits and small screw drivers. I own lots and lots and shouldn't break the bank at all.

Thanks F22 Pilot. I have just taken a relatives PC and laptop to a fully Gov accredited recycle and dispose company. They use and recommended KillDisk.com. So I will use that when the time comes for mine.

Incidentally I used diskwipe on a windows xp/vista laptop. Didn't work properly. So I have the choice of killdisk or dban.

This Question can now be marked as solved. Thanks to you all for your advice.
