Windows 7 deletes old system restore files

Just received a Windows defender update, and noticed afterwards that Windows automatically deleted older system restore files, and left me with only one copy. I prefer to keep two or three copies based on some bad experiences - just in case. How can windows be stopped from deleting them automatically?

it will depend on 2 things have you got enough space on your disc, or
More likely you have not got enough storage space set on system Restore.

The number of days that restore points are kept before being automatically deleted is the value stored in the registry here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore\RPSessionInterval

This value specifies, in seconds, the restore points Time to Live (TTL). When a restore point reaches this time and it is still on the system, it gets deleted. The default value is (7776000), which will be 90 days.

Thanks for the replies, which led me to find a number of problems. There is plenty of disk space for system restore, but the space reserved was 0 which caused the problem. Trying to increase it, generated an 0x80070003 error, which led me to download KB947821 which repaired all the errors. The time limit in the registry is more than adequate. Thanks again.

However the last partition which I designated as "temp" is on the list to be restored, which is not wanted but can't get it off the list. Any ideas please?
