We mostly recommend ImgBurn in the Install forum because of habit, and it never fails.

If the native burner program is unable to burn a bootable installation DVD, from the Windows 7 setup files, then I'll tell those who are slipstreaming an SP1 installation DVD to download this program, since it's fully functional, and completely 100% free of charge [since that was untimately my main goal here]. Thanks for the link!

It cannot be said that Win7 native image burner is unable to burn a bootable installation DVD - it's just not given here very often out of habit.

It seems to work find every time I've tried it, and may be every bit as good as ImgBurn.

Thanks guys, I figured out how to burn the installation files into a bootable ISO using the native burner. I figured there was a way to do it.

I'll be finished with the tutorial on how to slipstream SP1 into a bootable installation ISO, using the WAIK tool, as well as the native burner, in about 5 days or so. The vast majority of that time will be spent capturing the instructional images, and editing them [along with the tutorial steps text].

hmmmm.......... I anticipated that much - that you will be calling upon WAIK to slipstream. I reserve my comments to a later date except that it brings to my mind "Around the World in Eighty Days" right now.

This is the easiest method I've come across to compile the installation files into ISO without having to use Vlite:

Use this: View attachment 72576

Assuming you have the 7 installation files on your HD , if not, copy and paste them from the dvd that isn't booting onto your HD.

Rt click and run as admin on bootisomaker.cmd.

Browse to the boot.wim in the 7 installation files "sources" folder. When asked, Select 7 bootsector.

It will do the rest.

I'm beginning to think nobody has read through this thread. I do NOT want to use 3rd party software to burn the disc [I've had Nero 7 Premium since it first came out]. I need to know how to burn in with the Windows 7 native burner program. <sigh>

The script created by SIW2 above to compile Installation Files into an ISO does not need to be used to burn the ISO to DVD. It can make the ISO without burning it.

Be assured that plenty of experts have read this thread and will avoid helping when you are unnecessarily fussy like that. More like a Thread Ender.

I don't think I was being "unnecessarily fussy" at all, Greg. I got two pages of people referring me to third party burning software when I specifically stated I wanted to avoid that, or telling me it's possible to burn a bootable ISO from a file compilation with the native burner, but didn't tell me how to do it. That gets rather frustrating after awhile, when all they had to do was read the first few posts. I was in a hurry too, so I guess that added to the frustration. I only started this thread to help forum members by creating a tutorial for them. Why would someone "avoid helping me" accomplish that? And I do appreciate help from others on the rare occasions that I ask for it [just for the record]. Helping others is the very reason why I joined this forum.

The tool which SIW2 ingeniously created is not a burner, but compiles files into an ISO easily if you follow the simple steps given. It only offers to burn the ISO as a courtesy, and it uses the native image burner which was your goal.

Are you serious? I guess you and I read things WAY differently then. Not a single referal?.....

I would still always need a more full-featured app, like ImgBurn or CDBurnXP, so I've never bothered with the built-in burner anymore, as I just use those apps.

I was thrilled with the fact I didn't need any extra software to burn a .iso file, but I didn't see methods of editing or creating .iso files, so I had to go back to my trusty old UltraISO.

So I believe I was being accurate, Greg. Not to mention the 3-4 other posts that said it was in fact possible to use the native burner, but didn't even hint at how it was done. And two other posts that claimed it could not be done at all. So no, I was not being "unnecessarily fussy." Which I believe, was an unnecessary comment.

I know, I made an honest mistake on that post. When I went to download the attachment, I saw the file name "BootISOMaker" which I thought was yet another third party burner program, since all the previous ones were. I figured someone would just give the steps needed to use the native burner, not an attachment. So I'm sorry for making that mistake, and I thank you for that ingenious command script. It will come in handy for many different projects with a little editing. I have no problem at all admitting it when I make a mistake.

At any rate, you can disagree with me all you want to. I'm finished posting in this thread. It's getting borderline insane now, so I'll just leave it at that, Bro.

Again, not a single referral as we explained why we stick to our trusty burners like ImgBurn even though Win7 Image Burner has no reported problems. In fact I emphasized this.

It irks me because I spent over an hour searching for that SIW2 tool to help you easily create an ISO from files only to have you accuse me of pushing a third party burner without reading the thread.

A day earlier I had bemoaned the fact that Windows Image Burner isn't gettin its just due, only to have you respond that I had said it can't burn a DVD.

Can't wait to see the tutorial.
