windows 7 freezes on fresh install

the other day my computer froze up so i restarted it and it wouldnt load past the starting windows screen so put in a new hard drive and tried to install windows 7 . it did the same thing it loaded the windows files and stopped at the starting windows screen i then tried xp and it did the same but then went to bsod and said acpi.sys i tried to get into bios and it didnt give me any options on changing anything i am using an hp dv6
please help i am lost and not really great with this kind of thing

I tried everything listed above and windows still freezes Ubuntu works fine except I can't use my touchpad but I'd really like windows back

Is it possible i have a bad motherboard
I ran merest and everything was ok an my hdd is ok too

If you'd tried everything then you'd have a perfect Clean Reinstall which is the last resort in the steps I gave you.

If you don't want Ubuntu then boot the Win7 installer for your version provided and delete all partitions during install, follow the steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Then you'll know for sure it isn't the software and if probs continue we can focus on hardware.

Have you tested RAM for 5-6 passes minimum and HD extended CD test?
 
im still stuck windows seven still hangs up when i start my computer its a blank harddrive and ram is still testing good
