Windows 7 to Extend Readyboost

The German computer magazine Winfuture revealed in a recent post that Microsoft will extend Readyboost support in Windows 7. Readyboost was introduced in Windows Vista and was used to add flash drive caches of up to 4 Gigabytes to the system. The main intention of Readyboost was to provide lower end systems running Windows Vista with better performance by utilizing those additional flash caches.

The updated Readyboost in Windows 7 will see several advancements. The 4 Gigabyte restriction will be lifted which essentially means that flash drives with larger capacities can then be used as additional cache. The limit to one Readyboost device has also been removed which gives users the possibility to use multiple flash drives as additional caches in Windows 7.

Well now i am going to buy a 128gig flash drive as my ready boost lol.

But on a side note that is cool that you can use more than 4gig and even use more than 1 device.

I had been using a 4gig stick with Vista Ultimate and the light inside the stick was always flickering. The same stick now hardy ever light up, but it does a little at boot, and cannot figure out the difference, or even if it is working. ReadyBoost has been enabled for that drive Anyone else notice this?

I just wish they would not tie Readyboost and Superfetch like in Vista - I want to disable Superfetch but still use ReadyBoost to enhance the RAM in my system - but if ReadyBoost is only used for Superfetch, then it is useless to me.

I see in this forum coversations on ReadyBoost for Win 7. I have Win 7 version 7, and I cannot seem to find the program as I could in vista. Is it available now on my computer and I am too much of a dolt to figure out the hows and wheres? Or do I have to wait for the 'official' version to hit the 'back alleys' of the internet. Also, does anyone know any other ReadyBoost type programs for Windows 7 as well as a Fax program you would reccommend? Thanks!

I put a finalized game iso in a dvdr drive and right clicked, chose properties. Can you believe there is a readyboost tab there lol and I still can't get my flash memory to use readyboost on 7022.

It was present for me in 7000, now using same pc/flash card in 7022 i can't see the tab at all.

I have been testing it with and without and so far have not really noticed any increase in speed.

maybe for those systems that have 512mb of ram might see something...

I am using ReadyBoost on two Win7 (build 7000) systems. One difference with Win7 over Vista seems to be that Win7 will not suggest (no ReadyBoost tab) using a memory device it deems unworthy. My experience tells me that if I plug in a ReadyBoost worthy SD card, I will be offered to use ReadyBoost, otherwise, no offer.

As far as ReadyBoost being worth the effort at all - I use ReadyBoost on my main production machine (Vista Ultimate) and while it's not noticable in many applications, I have one application I regularly use for photography where it makes a dramatic difference. The way I noticed that is when the USB thumb drive I was using for ReadyBoost wore out. Yes, folks, they wear out. I was wondering why it was taking so damn long for this application to come up and work until I figured out the thumb drive had gone south. I replaced it and the speed was back. Instead of taking up to 30 seconds to come up and be ready to work, it was taking about 2 seconds, as it used to. So I say it works.

Interesting. I guess I have not noticed in a program like that. Maybe I should try out some really demanding programs.

I used readyboost when I loaded 7 onto my old Dimension desktop with 512mb of ram.

Needless to say the performance benefit was noticeable. I've read that once you have 2gigs of RAM or more its usefulness becomes increasing negligible.

My memory stick/readyboost was working fine in vista/7 b7000 but not present in 7022.
