Windows 7 Service Pack installed OK but had a Runtime error

I have just downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 from the Windows Update site. It certainly took much longer than half an hour to complete and when the download reached 93% I was presented with the following information / warning window headed .....

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library ....... and with the following text .....

Runtime Error
Program:C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IELowutil.exe

R6016
Not enough space for thread data.

To my complete relief Service Pack 1 "successfully installed", it then ran through the configuration / re-start procedure successfully too.

I checked the file IELowutil.exe and the one I have on my machine is dated 14/7/2009 and is a 113KB Application.

I have no idea what it does or what the Runtime Error means and wonder if this is something I can happily "forget" or is it something that could pose a problem and I am a bit anxious about this as I am no computer expert. So if there is a fix I hope its easy to do ... :o

not enough space for thread data
The program did not receive enough memory from the operating system to complete a _beginthread call.
When a new thread is started, the library must create an internal database for the thread. If the database cannot be expanded with memory provided by the operating system, the thread will not begin and the calling process will stop.

Thank you for explaining that.

To my great relief it does not appear to have caused any problems since so I guess it must have sorted itself out .....

That article refers to Windows NT and looks rather above my head technically ... :o ... I have Windows 7 (32bit) so am limited in the amount of RAM Windows can cope with.

The idea is simple, in all that technical language, which makes it a bit difficult. You have to understand that the amount of ram, size of page file, virtual memory and the programs you intend to run are compatible.
For instance, if you have 2gb of ram, has Windows running and lets say photoshop and opens a 500mb image, you will need ram for Windows (about 1gb), Photoshop 1gb and more 500mb for the image, you blone up 500mb of your 2gb of ram and have to put 500mb on virtual memory. More about pagefile (Paging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). There is also an option in some mobos that can alocate 4gb in the 3.8gb that 32bit recognizes, but I actually don't know much about it. Look for something mentioned about it on your mobo manual.
The main idea about that error is that, you need room for this app to run and you don't have it right now.

My system has 4GB RAM, which is the max is can handle, unless I go to the 64 bit version of Windows 7 ...... and that is something that I would leave in the hands of somebody a lot more confident and knowledgeable about these machines than myself ........... hopefully whatever the problem was has been solved or worked around as things are running smoothly ....touching wood frantically

Here's to a trouble free 2012 for us all!!
