Windows 7 Starter Wipe and Prepare for Resell

OK, when I start up my netbook, I get two fn options:

F2) Press for setup:

Just gives me a bunch of BIOS settings for configuring various options, but I can go to the "BOOT" section, which seems like it has 1 more option than when I press F12 for the boot device selection menu:

FDD

I don't know what "FDD" is but I am given the option to boot from it upon entering setup.

F12) Boot device selection menu:

This gives me 2 options to boot from:

HDD/SSD
or
LAN

I'm guessing I woudn't want FDD, because I'm assuming that stands for Floppy Disk Drive.

I am trying to understand your second part of your last post.

I'm just trying to find that recovery partition.

OK, cool, I am looking under Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities and I get the following programs, I have listed only the ones I deemed relevant:

HDD Protection Settings
HDD SSD Alert Help
HDD SSD Alert
HWSetup
PC Diagnostic Tool

Quite often, when you boot up a computer that has a recovery partition you will see something like
Press F11 to start system recovery.
You have to watch for this during the post.

So, you may not have a recovery partition.

Without that, you would need to have access to a Windows 7 install DVD and then use the COA from the box itself.

Edit: Here is a link to the manual for the 200 series netbooks: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/con...2346766/GMAD00199011_NB200_Series_09May01.pdf

From that link on page 47 it says
Turn on your Computer and Press 0 during the POST. You will then get the restore options.

When I was looking at that manual you posted pparks1, thank you very much btw, I was reading about restoring to the "original factory image" on that same page, page 47.

Now, everything worked great, all my data that I wanted to save had been successfully moved to my iMac (oh no!), and now the netbook is just showing the screen where it has Windows 7 Starter, and where you choose your language and country.

I thought this was better than completely wiping the netbook, just because I can advertise that it has Windows 7 Starter! Was this the right thing to do? Can I just power it off, pack it in its original packaging and send it on its merry way?

Hello qcom.

You may have issues if you don't finish the install and you hard-power it off, the install may have to be re-started when the PC is powered back up.

OK, thanks.

You know what? Maybe I should just power off, by holding down the power button for a few seconds, like a hard shut-down.

Then, try and power up just like I would instruct my buyer to do.

If there is a problem during my test run, I'll restart but this time, completely wipe my HDD, not to the factory image. Removing the OS entirely.

Sound good?
