Windows 7 Ultimate X64 VM

I have a VM I'm running using Oracle VMWare VirtualBox and I' trying to get the updates done, but the VM is as solid as a rock, frozen entirely. I gave the VM a dynamic VDI with 500 GB behind it so it should have enough space. And I gave it 16 GB (DDR4 3000 from Windows 10) of RAM so it should have plenty. There isn't anything else installed or running but updates and still it is as frozen as a rock. This is a brand new installation of the VM. I need some advice.

[1] When you say frozen as a rock, do you mean it is stuck on Checking for Windows Updates . . .?
[2] Other than this problem have you got Internet access?
[3] Could it be something to with a Firewall or Proxy Server?
[4] Are there any ERROR messages?

Windows Update is terribly broken and can take hours to even get the list of available updates. Just leave it overnight and give it plenty of time to do its thing.
Besides, why are you getting updates? Is there anything that a specific update fixes?

Irrelevant to the topic, but are you using VMWare or VirtualBox? They're two different virtualization programs.

I totally agree with Alejandro85.

[1] Letting M$ WU update your OS involves many hours of downloading, installing and re-booting. A far easier, quicker and smoother way to update your OS is to use either DISM++ or SIMPLIX. In your particular case, SIMPLIX will be the one to use!

[2] You only really need to download and install an update if you are having problems and the update will correct it or fix it. I say that, but as you have probably seen in many of the posts on this forum, installing some WU's can cause problems to the OS.
