Solved Windows 7 x64 Update Failures (KB2977629,KB2977728)

Something failed during the update process for this update - perhaps the power went out early, or an AV got in the way. I don't really think there's a lot you can do about it except to never manually turn off the machine during the post-update reboot.

Good luck!

I might have been careless, but I am pretty careful as a rule. I hibernate a lot though and have had issues with that as of late. I'll look deeper into it.

So the problem was corrupted 'packages'? Where did you get the files you sent me? Are they available for individual download once I determine which files are bad?

This site, the tools that are mentioned, and your process of solving this issue is incredibly awesome! I have been using Windows since version 2.0 and always had nagging issues I had trouble solving. You and this site helped peel yet another layer back and I feel more in control again. THANK YOU! Marking this as solved! :D

You're welcome.
All the files for every update can be found by downloading the standalone copy and expanding it - the trick is to either have the right tools available, or know how to expand the file. MS has around a dozen different types of file expansion used in Windows updates, and many tools don't work for more than one of them.
For standard files in US English versions, they can also (mostly) be copied from another machine with the same version/edition/bitness as the problem one
