Windows 7 x64 won't install (20% Extracting)

Hello sevenforums users!
I must be doing something stupid :o
I have downloaded 3 windows ISO's- 7000 from torrent, 7100 from torrent, and 7100 RC from Microsoft. None of them work. Please note I have burned them at 4x and verified them. The torrentred ones were CRC checked on the fly, and the microsoft one passed it's check (I tried downloading once before that- it said it was corrupted! Ouch, after day and night of downloading!) They will not do anything if I boot them directly- After I choose a drive to install to, Copying Files jumps to 100% and proceeds to Extracting files, and then about 5 mins later, it gives the message "Error Code (forgotten) Please make sure all installation sources are available and try installing again" or something like that. The percentage remains 0%. If I run the installer from Windows XP Professional x64 edition, I can install the windows files (Proceeds to 100% at a decent rate, not jumping straight to 100%) and will get to 20% Extracting Windows Files, and reboot. Windows will "resume" the installation, and give a dialog similar to that when I was installing through XP (normal ;)), showing "Extracting Windows Files (20%)". In about two minutes it will show "Error Code (forgotten) Please make sure all installation sources are available and try installing again" (or something similar to that). HUH?
Hope it's an easy fix. Specs in account...and there was someone who had the same problem, who fixed it himself, and I tried that, but have lost the bookmark when accidentally trying to install Windows 7 to the wrong partition...
Please help, 0xFFender. :D

Yeah, imgburn, all three times. First two on the same install, third I had to reinstall imgburn (accidental format). All the same version. DVD burner only goes to 4x. Can't seem to get my 4gb fdd, External HDD or MP3 player to boot. I know, i'm not very easy to sort out :D. I get "Disk I/O Error. Replace and press any key". I Press a key and get some error liek non system disk or something like that (geez im not good at remembering...). Both my MP3 player and 4gb flashdrive just sit there with a flashing cursor. No boot from them....
Thanks. 0xFFender

0xFFender welcome to sevenforums..

Can you try different media to use or try burning the iso with a different drive?

Also if the drive is 4x write only, it could well be an old drive and this too would point to the drive possibly failing.

And i hate to look rude (i'm not being) can you use paragraphs in your posts.

Some people find it hard to focus on one big block of writing. Thanks mate.

Hello!
I will use paragraph-ise my writing a little more from now on :D You weren't being rude, and I was worried my posts were a little...uh...screwy.

My DVD Burner can burn at 16x (4, 8, 12, 16x) but I burned the DVDs at 4x to help it burn correctly...so you say I should try another burner? I'll try that and see what I get.

I did get my flashdrive to boot with the guide linked earlier, but it said something about not being able to create temporary partition or something but it should have been able to, there was 1gig of space left over on both HDDs I tried...soo...I'll try burning with a different burner; i'll report status.
Thanks, 0xFFender :)

Which hard drive are you trying to install it to. And how much free space is on that hard drive?

Whoa!

Whoa! Sorry for the late reply...almost reasurructing a dead thread here ;)

I was trying to the internal drive that is NOT the WD Caviar (IDE Master 1) (I don't know what that is and can't be bothered taking out the HDD to look...), using both the first and last primary partitions. The middle partition was a Linux Swap that Windows either thinks is unallocated or unknown. The drive had 25gb avaliable the first time, and 40gb the second time.

I tried earlier to install to the drive that IS the WD Caviar (IDE Slave 1). The drive had one big NTFS Partition created especially for Win7. It was around 80gb (maximum size). I tried FAT32 and deleting the partition to have Windows 7 make a partition but that didn't work either.

I had a small amount of success using imagex.exe as per this guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/7943-install-windows-7-fast-without-dvd-usb-device.html. I used Windows XP Pro x64 and 32 bit to do this. It worked, to an extent.

It booted after some <lame>Uber 1337 crack-haxing</lame> with EasyBCD, but would get to a screen saying Please Wait, which had a little Vista-like spinning circle of light please-wait-thingy. I left this for 3 hours and it had not changed. I left it for a further hour and came back to a BSoD, relating to trying to read/write a memory location Windows didn't like (heheh). I assume that is the spot where users, etc are created? Any ideas people? I have no idea- and i've installed many, many OS'es. :geek:

Hope you can read this,
0xFFender
EDIT: BTW I also tried some x86 versions of Windows 7 that one of my friends had made, and they did the same thing. *sigh*. God hates me. So does Satan.

0xFFender, just as a matter of interest did you run a memory test at all? If not I would suggest doing one just to rule out any issues with it. Vista and Win 7 do stress your memory more than XP did. You're not overclocking are you? If you are, I would suggest returning to a normal state.
