"Ray Ozzie, Microsoft chief software architect, announced "Windows Azure" during the PDC keynote Monday. Windows Azure is a hosted suite of services, including virtualized computing, scalable storage, and an automated service management system. Ozzie said that these tools were built to host Microsoft services like MSN, Xbox Live, and Office Online. In theory, if Azure is robust enough for these services, it will also work well for Microsoft partners and customers. The first Community Tech Preview will be available later in the day."

An attempt to explain AZURE

"Now that the initial Microsoft PDC pixie dust has settled, developers are trying to digest exactly what Microsoft’s cloud platform is. Here’s my attempt to explain it.

Microsoft layed out its “Azure” foundational infrastructure for the cloud during the keynote kick-off on day one of the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) here in Los Angeles. The goal of Azure is to provide developers who want to write applications that run partially and/or entirely in a remote datacenter with a platform and set of tools."
