I have a Dell inspiron N5110 laptop with windows 7 ultimate on it. For the past few weeks i haven't been able to use it during normal mode at all.

Whenever I turn it on, windows explorer would freeze, not allowing me to open any applications, or even click on the start icon. I couldn't do anything at all. So i would leave it and after a few minutes, sometimes it would take up to half an hour, i would just get an error saying windows explorer is not responding and that it would restart. So i would wait. Then it would just go through the same process over and over again. So in normal mode it is impossible for me to do anything. so i tried safe mode with networking. it started off OK, the first time i used it i searched looking for a solution or any updates that i haven't installed, but i gave up as nothing worked so i turned it off. Ever since then it freezes and windows explorer doesn't load up. So the only thing i can use is safe mode.

I searched 'event viewer' , and went onto windows logs and then applications and have wrote the event ID and source code.

I dont know if that would be any help at all but on an old forum someone asked for this information.

I have also scanned the PC numerous of times and nothing has come up, i went on the command prompt and it couldn't complete the scan for some reason, which might be related. and i have deleted all recent files but i doubt that would be the problem because i dont really download anything and i havent for a while.

Really need help on this because i have so much work to do.

When you say "scanned numerous times" do you mean with your anti Virus? Can you run SFC from your Win 7 DVD?

Since windows is hanging you need to run checks outside of windows

yes i have scanned about 6 times with AVG and sfc /scan now. i dont actually have a windows 7 DVD as windows was already installed when the laptop was delivered from dell. Should i go and buy one and do what you have suggested?

Gald to try to help . NO do not buy a DVD. you can download and ISO File from here Windows 7 Direct Download Links and burn your own! (Thanks to Brink for the link)
I assume you have another computer where you can create the DVD. If you need it type "create DVD from iso file" into windows help for more info. The error mentions Microsoft Security Essentials, did you ever have it installed?
ALSO http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html you may want to run a repair install ... this tutorial is the best I have ever seen, but it also requires the aforementioned win 7 DVD.

ok i wont buy.. Ill make the disk now. no i never had it installed, i went onto safe mode using networking and went to download it. it come up at the bottom but when it loaded up it said it couldnt be installed becasuse i was using safe mode. so the setup stayed in my downloads folder. i then asked one of my IT tutors about it and he said to install it onto a memory stick and then run it on my laptop, which also didnt work because i had to be running in normal mode.

That is also a good idea (to run a virus scan from USB with a program other than AVG) .. just be sure it is up to date.
Not to point out the obvious but do you have a system image on an external drive that you can restore with?
