Windows Live Mail

Look I KNOW this God awful application has been done to death but I am so fed up with it I am on the cusp of buying Office so that I can get an email that actually bloody works!!!!! even if it costs me a thousand dollars as long as it WORKS.

The thing takes so long to download messages and uploading / sending (HA HA that's meant to be a joke!!) anything with say a photo in it I might as well forget.

The message sits in the outbox sometimes for days waiting to be sent and I have to eventually delete it just to get rid of the IRRITATING pop up message telling me that I have mail to be sent.

I have tried reinstalling it, rebooting the machines the modem and apart from setting fire to it - everything. It has now finally ground to a halt and I am just flabbergasted. Plus it seems to have got worse since SP1!!

Can someone please help me before I jump under the next trian through as I am at my wits end!!

I don't want to go hotmail, gmail, yahoo flaming mail or anything as I don't really like that third party stuff. I just want an email that actually does what it is meant to - HELP!

Yeah I personally recommend Thunderbird as well if you have need of a non-web client. Very good client, never had a problem with it ever.

I am sorry to bother you both but as you can gather by now a tek-nobrain and I need to ask a couple of things as I've always used the mail that comes with the Windows OS.

Do I have to install Firefox to use Thunderbird? and will I have to change my in/out settings with my ISP? The latter is one of those things to avoid if at all possible but if it is going to sort this never ending problem out then it would be so appreciated.

I'm just disappointed that Microsoft didn't include even a rudimentary mail service in the OS, because this Live has been a nightmare since day one.

I'm also a tek-nobrain. But no you do not need the firefox browser and as for your isp settings they should be the same as the settings you use for WLM it is pretty easy to set up.

I have played around with thunderbird a bit and it seems to work OK. A little bit like outlook express. But I use WLM and have had no problems with it but it seems not to want to play nice for quite a few people. Would love to know why this is? Anyway I hope it works well for you.

Yeh mate WLM worked fine but then just lately it's been getting pretty damn daggy and it seems to have got worse after that SP1 update -hmmmmmm I wonder??

Oh and I didn't think anyone would know what the latin meant - saw a REALLY and SERIOUSLY weird DVD called Down the Rabbit Hole once till about half way through then went stark raving mad as you can see lol!!

Hiya Odin Will have a look - found the WLM problem I am assuming that some updates to essentials and all of tose x64 based system updates threw the mail into a spin, as I re entered my Live ID and look it's bloody fying now!!

Oh plus I have an extra little "window" at the top of the top home bar with my details in it - drives you mas all the ame eh??

what email service were you using? i use gmail, hotmail, and my college email, and everything works fine in WLM. I have had times were the emails weren't being sent but that was because i had the wrong data set for sending email.

WLM is a memory hog though.

Edit: Looks like everything is working, a simple re-sign in.

Don't forget to do the repair of 2011 to fix the Junk mail problem in WLM. Go to Programs and Features, highlight Windows Live Essentials, click on the repair button, and in the next window choose "repair".

Sorry mate have been at work for a while and missed your reply - will do - probably one of the contributing factors too I reckon.
