Windows on the Taskbar have suddenly reduced in size to a thin line

Hey all,

So all of a sudden while I was working earlier the open programs on the taskbar just suddenly started displaying as a thin vertical line. I have tried looking around to see if there was a setting, but nothing jumps out at me. I can still hover over and get aero peek function working fine, it's just that I can't see what the program is unless I hover over it.

Please can someone help?

The easiest thing may well be a System Restore point from just before the problem began.
