Windows reinstall & Graphics card problems after updated bios

Hello,

Ive recently purchases and upgraded my CPU from an i3 to an i5. My motherboard couldn't recognize this CPU until I upgraded the bios. Now the CPU works fine, I had to reinstall windows 7, and my graphics card isn't recognized at all by the computer. Only plugged into graphics card, the computer is black... plugged into the motherboard it boots fine.

RAM: DDR3 8GB
MOTHERBOARD: ASRock H61M-HVS Version (P2.50)(Latest)
GPU: Geforce 750 TI (Running CPU Graphics now (Intel HD Graphics 4000)
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K
Power: 750w

Things I've tried:
1. Updated bios to the newest version.
2. Clean install windows (all drivers up the date)
3. Changing Bios settings to PCIE
4. Can't install Geforce drivers because hardware is not recognized.
5. Restarted Motherboard.
6. Refreshed Bios to default.
7. Tried old Drivers.
8. Tried 2 Other Video cards.


I don't know what else I can do. The GPU is inserted correctly, with extra power, I'm starting to think the PCIe bus is fried on the motherboard (only 1). Or I upgraded my bios too far.. (P1.90 required). Any help would be great, Thanks.

Double check that the video card power adapters are properly seated.
On my last BIOS update I had the same issue, it turns out I must've touched one of the power adapters to the video card when I was replacing the CMOS battery. A good push on them fixed it.

Thanks for response, Yes I have plugged/disconnected multiple times. The other two graphics cards don't require extra power anyway.

Most of my hardware is about 5 years old, if that has anything to do with it.

You said you tried two other video cards - did it work with them or not?

Also, does the card work at all, i.e. do fans spin or lights on it (if it has) come on?

Have you checked to see if there are any conflicting display drivers? Go to device manager, click on the drop down arrow for display adapters and right click on your unrecognized card. Uninstall the the old drivers if they are still there.

Also check on the BIOS for the display initializer. I had a problem once where the bios would not detect the gpu and would just boot up on the intergrated graphics. Check in the bios for a setting that will set your main gpu. If its there select it and it should say something like: PEG, IGFX, AUTO. Click PEG, this will set your gpu as the main display adapter. This might fix the problem when you try to connect your monitor (Make sure you install the gpu drivers before you do this).

I am not sure about your current mobo though, so don't get your hopes up

Yes it did not work with the other 2 cards, the fan spins up though. I see no conflicting devices, I can't install the drivers without the computer recognizing the hardware first. Yes, the bios has been set up to initiate PEG first. Although I tried an old ATI GPU which drivers installed fine, but still the same result. No GPU shows up in the device manager. (Checked hardware changes)

When I run a windows Hardware and Devices scan it tells me: (weather I have any GPU connected or not.)

I've googled and googled, although nothing relevant comes up.

Safe boot and BIOS

Have your tried booting up into safe mode? Sometimes this is a good way to install new hardware or new drivers, because it just boots with Windows 7 default drivers. You should always use safe boot when you install any new hardware or drivers. If that does not work, the only other thing I can think about is rolling back to the earliest BIOS update 1.90. I researched your CPU model under your motherboard board and this BIOS update supports it. If this does not solve the issue either... well I think it would be best to invest your money in a solid motherboard from Gigabyte (I personally recommend Gigabyte, but ASUS is highly esteemed as well) or some other noteworthy manufacturer, try to get a motherboard with a new chipset like the z87 or z77 chipset (the one I am using), it is very solid and I have had no problems. I did a quick search and found the Z77X-D3H at a good price new on Amazon for about £80. Don't rely on my recommendations though, have a look around and read reviews.
