Windows speech recognition now misinterpreting severely

The problem I am having is with Windows speech recognition. I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Actually the issue is that a home automation software, Home Seer, uses Windows speech recognition for its speech control. This used to work beautifully. Suddenly the issue was extremely poor word recognition. Ultimately the software seems to think I am saying the word "time" repeatedly. I tried to do the training in Windows control panel/speech recognition, but the reception was so poor it does not allow me to finish. Even the first sentence. Interestingly enough, a commercial package. Dragon NaturallySpeaking works flawlessly on the same machine. Dragon is supposed to be more sophisticated, of course there is no comparison. However. On the home Seer forum. There are been suggestions to repair a corrupted Windows voice recognition installation. That called for downloading and running Windows speech recognition SDK. Unfortunately, this is two years old and appears to.relate to Windows XP but I do not see a Windows 7 version. Prior to taking any other steps. I am hoping someone might know about a "corrupted Windows speech recognition installation" which certainly would explain the problem? Thank you in advance for any tips. Kevin

sounds like your mic/headset is going bad

have you actually turned on the speakers and just listened to what it sounds like?
Dragon may just be better at picking through a slightly bad signal because it really sounds like a stretched wire in the headset chord to me.

Anyhow barring the headset being the problem.
System restore should be able to return it to how it was before. Assuming the problem is software side and not a dying headset.

Good thought but the microphone is functioning normally.
Unfortunately this problem occurred probably months ago and so a system restore would roll things back further than I would like. When a so-called system repair with the original DVD address a "corrupted voice recognition installation" I am familiar with Dragon. If your data files get corrupted that will do the same thing. Does anyone know it about the data files that Windows 7 uses to store its information of voice recognition?

Any tips appreciated.
